The role

Nice to know (you)

  • As an Authority Officer Landside, you are in the middle of the operation, exactly where you want to be. Close to employees and passengers, you are a specialist, the host or hostess, the first responder, and the enforcer.
  • Additionally, as an Authority Officer Landside, you are designated as a law enforcement officer (BOA) within Domain I Public Space.
  • From traveler to employee: we find it very important that everyone feels safe, valued, and welcome at Schiphol.

Connecting your world

As an Authority Officer Landside, you act as a supervisor and are responsible for supervising compliance with and enforcement of the Schiphol Rules and (aviation) laws and regulations. Together with nearly 120 colleagues, you form a crucial link in the emergency organization and ensure a safe airport every day for employees, visitors, and travelers. And how you approach this? That is up to you. We trust in the way you show courage and trust in your own abilities. You apply your talents to:

  • carrying out inspections and quality rounds within the landside area. You report complex or urgent disruptions, in which you also have an advisory role towards Airport Control.
  • supervising and enforcing the Schiphol Rules and (aviation) laws and regulations, also as a BOA, for everyone entering your responsible sub-area.
  • assisting and coordinating during emergencies, emergency response (BHV) deployments, and disrupted business operations. Regularly, you are one of the first Schiphol employees on-site during incidents or accidents. You keep a cool head and provide the first necessary assistance on-site. This can be medical assistance, acting as a first responder (BHV), or securing and cordoning off the scene of the incident so that emergency services can easily enter the area.
  • Working within other sub-areas when necessary; Authority works as one team and supports each other where possible.

Schiphol Airport Authority (SAA) is part of the Schiphol Operations department and falls under the Safety & Environment sub-department. The core values within SAA are: Reliable, In contact, Limiting & Visible. SAA consists of a front office and a back office. The Authority Officers, together with the Team Managers, are part of the front office. Team Managers are hierarchically and substantively responsible for the functioning, development, and stimulation of the team and department.

  • At Landside, you start in a training program of at least 4 months. During this period, you start in entry-level scale 7.
  • As an Authority Officer Landside, you must complete the BOA training within one year; this is a requirement for performing the role independently.
  • A healthy physical condition is of great importance for this position. Additionally, this is a position in continuous service, which means early, late, day, and night shifts 24/7. A fixed day off is not possible.
