The role

Nice to know (you)

  • You get energy from complex environments where it is not always immediately clear exactly where the problem lies.
  • The SRE team contributes to a safe and predictable operation by making digital services more reliable while further professionalizing the SRE capability within Schiphol.
  • We are going for it: Schiphol must belong to the top 3 of European airports.

Connecting your world

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you help increase the reliability and availability of digital services that are critical to Schiphol's operations. You work in an environment with multiple applications, platforms, product teams, and external suppliers. In doing so, you move between technology, operations, and collaboration. You don't just look at solving individual incidents, but primarily at what incidents teach us about the system. Where does noise arise in monitoring? Where are clear runbooks missing? Where is the dependency on a single person, supplier, or manual step too great? And which improvements demonstrably deliver more stability, predictability, or speed? In this way, you connect engineering, operations, and suppliers. You help make reliability work visible, discussable, and prioritizable. Not as a ticket factory, but as a capability that helps Schiphol run the digital airport of today and tomorrow reliably. How exactly you realize this? That is up to you. We trust the way you approach matters in a positive way. You will apply your talents to:

  • managing and improving business-critical platforms and applications on, among others, OpenShift and Azure Cloud.
  • contributing to a more reliable, safer, and better manageable IT landscape for Schiphol's operations.
  • handling and coordinating incidents, even when the application area, the chain, or the ownership situation is not yet fully clear.
  • improving observability, monitoring, alerting, and logging, so that signals reach the right people earlier, more sharply, and with less noise.
  • translating incidents, trends, and operational risks into concrete improvement actions for performance, continuity, and resilience.
  • onboarding applications to the SRE service and ensuring that operational agreements, runbooks, and documentation are usable and up to date.

You've got this

Schiphol connects your world. With the best people, we make travel safe and responsible. You contribute to this with your unique talents, such as the way you work with a positive and energetic attitude and enthusiastically pursue goals. In any case, for this position, you have:

  • affinity with monitoring, logging, metrics, alerting, incident management, and structural problem-solving.
  • good command of Dutch and English for collaboration with various stakeholders, teams, and suppliers.
  • a sense for the balance between speed, quality, and "good is good enough": you help to make sharp choices without losing sight of the reliability of the foundation.

You get this

  • € 5231 to € 7257 gross per month (scale 12).
  • A 13th month.
  • 14.4 diversity hours. You can use these hours to be (extra) off on a public holiday of your choice.
