HSE Officer

• You possess an MVK diploma, or you have completed training that aligns with the HSE field;
• Experience with HSE in a production/industrial environment;
• Knowledge of HSE systems, structures, and behavioral rules;
• Demonstrable experience in preparing and conducting audits, as well as experience with processes such as RIE, MOC, RCA, and TRA and setting up Safe Work Instructions;
• Knowledge of and experience with Dutch permitting systems;

• You are proficient in both the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written.

LyondellBasell is a leader in the global chemical industry that creates solutions for everyday sustainable living, of which our site in Geleen is a part. Geleen site is a dynamic organization, founded in 2014 by 3 entrepreneurs with a conviction to do things differently when it comes to recycling: the large-scale replacement of polymers produced from oil or gas. They saw a wonderful opportunity to sustainably process plastic waste by developing the same quality as classic polymers.

Today, our plant is a thriving organization of +/- 70 employees. Sustainability and responsible entrepreneurship are central to this. For example, the site is OCS (Operation Clean Sweep) certified. This means that we try to prevent the wasting/leakage of plastics as much as possible and clean it up as quickly as possible to prevent it from entering nature.

As HSE Officer, you play a key role in further developing the safety, health, and environmental culture within our organization. You act as an independent advisor and support the organization in managing risks, complying with laws and regulations, and continuously improving our HSE performance. With your expertise, you actively contribute to a safe, healthy, and sustainable working environment.

Actively involved in the HSE and GoalZero culture.

• Leading by example and ensuring discipline and compliance;
• Engaging, coaching, and challenging all employees of the organization to improve HSE performance, based on concrete recommendations and actions;
• Leading the local HSE meeting and representing HSE in various other HSE meetings / projects.

Training and education

• Providing training and toolbox talks to employees on safety, environmental practices, and health to increase awareness and understanding;
• Being prepared for emergencies: Developing and testing emergency plans to ensure that the organization is prepared for unforeseen events.

Safety protocols/procedures

• Advising on and providing the correct personal protective equipment (PPE);
• Creating and implementing safety procedures to minimize workplace risks and promote a safe environment (Goal Zero);
• Performing risk assessments: Identifying potential risks, evaluating their impact, and devising and applying solutions to mitigate or eliminate these risks;
• Drafting TRAs, keeping the RI&E up to date, providing HSE input for MOCs, etc.;
• Ensuring regulatory compliance: Staying informed about relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and ensuring that the organization complies with them;
• Incident investigation: Actively and immediately investigating and following up on accidents, incidents, or near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence;
• Supervising and assessing the implementation of Safety, Health, and Environmental standards.

Auditing and inspection

• Performing audits and inspections to assess compliance and identify areas susceptible to improvement in HSE practices.

Documentation and reporting

• Maintaining HSE data and preparing reports for management and external authorities;
• Managing initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of the organization's activities and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations (e.g., End of Waste, Permit).
• Following up on actions and incidents in the HSE software system (Intelex).

You possess excellent communication skills and know how to persuade, coach, and bring colleagues at all levels along with improvements. Additionally, you are result-oriented, proactive, and strong in identifying and solving problems. You take initiative, work independently, and feel responsible for further developing safety awareness within the organization.
