The role

As Baggage Manager, you are responsible for the availability, safety, performance, and future-proofing of the baggage system. You lead approximately 50 internal and 10 external professionals. How you achieve results within this? That is up to you. We trust in the way you make choices with conviction and thereby truly know how to make a difference. You apply your talents to:

What you'll do

  • determining the long-term course for the baggage system.
  • translating strategy into concrete choices, investments, and results.
  • directing maintenance, renovation, and replacement.
  • taking ownership of the baggage chain.
  • connecting technology, logistics, operations, IT, and data.
  • bringing tempo to decision-making and execution.
  • breaking patterns that hinder collaboration or progress.
  • addressing people clearly and respectfully.
  • actively asking for feedback and showing what you do with it.
  • ensuring the organization learns from mistakes and disruptions.

Nice to know (you)

  • You don't just manage assets. You ensure that one of the most complex logistical systems in the Netherlands keeps running and is ready for the future.
  • Schiphol's baggage system operates 24 hours a day. Meanwhile, it must be maintained, renewed, and improved. This requires clear choices, smart interaction, and a manager who does not just watch from the sidelines. Therefore, we are not looking for a caretaker who primarily watches over the shop. We are looking for an energetic leader who takes responsibility, gets people moving, and firmly puts Baggage Asset Management on the map.

  • At Schiphol, we work every day on innovation and improvement. In this way, we keep the Netherlands moving and create thousands of jobs and opportunities for people.

Connecting your world

Together with a wide network of stakeholders, you ensure that the baggage system, where technology and software converge, remains manageable and future-proof. You determine the course, set priorities, and ensure that plans are executed. You make it clear what we are going to do, what we are stopping, and what needs to change. When a problem lies outside your own team, you do not push it away. You bring the right people together, make interests discussable, and organize a solution. During a serious disruption, you are visible. You bring calm, make decisions, and ensure that operations are restored as quickly as possible. Afterwards, you look beyond the quick fix. You analyze the underlying cause, make it discussable, and ensure that improvements are actually implemented. You connect Operations, IT, HSE, Projects, airlines, suppliers, and market parties. You understand how formal and informal decision-making works. You are politically sensitive, but never lose sight of the result. Additionally, you are the figurehead of Asset Management. You make visible what professional Asset Management delivers for travelers, operations, and Schiphol as a whole. You also actively build relationships with suppliers, knowledge partners, and market parties outside of Schiphol.

At the same time, we resolve malfunctions and make thoughtful investment choices to prepare our infrastructure for the future.

You've got this

  • A completed HBO or WO degree in a technical, logistical, or business administration direction.
  • At least ten years of leadership experience in asset management, infrastructure, industry, logistics, supply chain, or a complex technical environment.
