AOA Nurse

The Acute Admission Department (AOA) has a high turnover; patients are admitted urgently and stay on the ward for a maximum of 48 hours before being discharged or transferred to a nursing ward.

Often, the patient is uncertain about what is going to happen. You are the nurse who provides attention and care to vulnerable patients and their loved ones in a short period of time. A clinical eye is indispensable in this, as are communicative and coordinating skills.

It is important that you set priorities and collaborate well with your direct colleagues, but also with colleagues from the Emergency Department and the nursing wards within the clinic. Collaboration within the chain is essential.

The AOA consists of an expert and driven team of nurses, secretaries, and room service staff. Colleagues look out for one another. The team is accessible, and the department managers are also easy to approach. On a hectic department like the AOA, you must support each other in patient care and in caring for one another. We find it important that everyone ends their workday satisfied.

The AOA offers much challenge for the experienced nurse who chooses acute care. There is plenty to do and you can continue to develop on the ward. Various internal clinical lessons are organized to strengthen you and keep your clinical eye sharp.

Since 2013, Medisch Spectrum Twente has had an Acute Admission Department. Here, all care is focused on the acute patient, i.e., unplanned care. The department has 42 beds, divided between a location on the ground floor and a location on the 6th floor. There are also a number of monitoring beds.

At the AOA, we deal with almost all specialties: from low-complexity care to very complex care. That makes working at the AOA dynamic and varied, but much is also expected of you. Therefore, we find it important that you arrive well-prepared and bring at least one year of hospital experience.

To properly fulfill this position as a nurse on the Acute Admission Department, the following matters are important:

• you hold a diploma in A-inservice, mbo-v or hbo-v and are BIG-registered;

• you have at least one year of work experience as a nurse within a hospital;

• to protect your boundaries, it is important that you can delegate when necessary;

• you are willing to work all shifts;

• required additional training is not a problem for you.
