What we offer
At SWARCO, we believe a new job should offer more than just an attractive salary or an engaging project. We believe the whole picture must be right. That is why we offer you a varied and challenging position, where you can work on cool projects that truly matter. From day one, we provide an extensive onboarding process. Your growth and development are a top priority for us; therefore, you will be given the space to follow both internal and external training and education. What else you receive based on full-time employment:
The infrastructure of the Netherlands never stands still. Bridges, locks, and airports must continue to function day and night. Behind this vital infrastructure lies a complex world of electrical engineering, control technology, and ICT. As a Service Technician, you ensure that these installations remain reliable, safe, and available.
As a Service Technician, you work on the maintenance and troubleshooting of various technical installations within our maintenance contracts. From Wormerveer, you will work on bridges and locks for Rijkswaterstaat, as well as on technical installations at airports. This makes your work quite diverse. One day you are at a bridge or lock, the next day you are working on a monitoring or runway lighting system at one of the largest airports in Europe.
You usually start your workday directly on location. In the maintenance system, you can see which tasks are planned and where you are expected. Sometimes you perform preventive or inspection maintenance, sometimes you get to work on tasks arising from previous inspections. You work largely independently, but when necessary, you team up with colleagues or subcontractors, for example during larger tasks or when safety requires it.
And then, of course, there are the breakdowns. These cannot be scheduled and can occur at any time. In these cases, you deal with agreed response and resolution times, which means you sometimes have to switch gears immediately and your planning changes. You analyze what is happening, solve the problem, and look beyond just the breakdown of that moment. Do you encounter something that recurs frequently or do you see that an installation or component is due for replacement? Then you ensure that this is recorded and followed up.
Because the installations we are responsible for must continue to function 24 hours a day, you and your colleagues participate in the breakdown service. Outside of regular working hours, you are reachable and available according to a roster when a breakdown requires it. Sometimes you can solve a problem remotely; sometimes it means you actually have to go to a location.
The technology you work with varies per contract. For bridges and locks, the emphasis lies on electrical engineering and control technology, among other things. At airports, you will also deal with systems in which ICT plays a larger role. Think, for example, of computers, components, and IP addresses. You do not need to be a specialist in everything, but you do enjoy understanding different technologies and developing yourself further in them.
An important part of your work is recording what you do. You register breakdowns, analyses, findings, and performed tasks in the various maintenance systems, often directly on location via your laptop, tablet, or phone. This way, your colleagues know what is happening and your findings can be translated into concrete actions for the contract and the client.
It is precisely that combination of freedom, responsibility, and technical challenge that makes this work interesting. You work independently, deal with different technologies, and never know exactly how your day will unfold in the morning. And that is exactly what makes the work so incredibly enjoyable.
Who we are looking for
For this role, we are looking for someone who gets energy from practical technology and enjoys working independently within a dynamic environment. You know that no day is the same, and that very variety suits you. You can switch gears when necessary, do not get stressed easily, and maintain an overview, even when a fault comes in that requires immediate attention.
You work in a structured manner, but understand that practice sometimes requires a different approach. You think in solutions, analyze faults to their core, and take responsibility for your work. At the same time, you know when to coordinate with colleagues, work preparation, or the customer. Furthermore:
