Senior IT-OT Engineer

• HBO/WO working and thinking level towards IT, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
• Demonstrable hands-on experience with SCADA, DCS, or PLC systems in a production or industrial environment.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems (OT security).
• Familiarity with MES architecture and the integration between OT and IT systems.
• Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and its application in production environments.
• Experience in an international, multidisciplinary organization.
• Good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
• Demonstrable experience in stakeholder management and advising senior management.

As a Senior IT-OT Engineer in Enkhuizen, you will be at the foundation of one of the most technological environments in the Dutch agri-sector — a production site where precision, data, and digitalization make the difference in how we grow and improve crops.

You will help build the digital future of Vegetables & Flowers in Enkhuizen— and that future starts now. You work independently, know what is happening with the stakeholders, think strategically, but also roll up your sleeves when necessary. Together with the site management team, you will shape the further digitalization of R&D and Production & Supply. You translate the Vegetables strategy into a future-proof IT/OT roadmap and advise on investments, risks, and opportunities in the field of digitalization, automation, and cybersecurity, and work closely with the global IT/OT stakeholders and the local management team.
At our location in Enkhuizen, you are the permanent IT/OT authority and the point of contact for complex infrastructure, automation, and integration issues.

The challenge
The IT/OT world in the agri-sector is in full motion. Systems that used to be completely separate from the IT infrastructure are now becoming part of a connected digital ecosystem, step by step. This offers opportunities — but also risks.

Think of cybersecurity issues in industrial environments, legacy OT systems that must work together with modern platforms, and a business that wants to digitalize faster than the infrastructure allows. You navigate through that. With overview, technical depth, and the drive to truly achieve something. Additionally, you ensure that technological choices align with the global business and technology strategy and are practically feasible within the local operation.

You help set priorities, create support among stakeholders, and ensure a sustainable balance between innovation, operational continuity, and risk management.

• You are the bridge between global IT teams and local IT/OT environments — you ensure alignment, compliance, and progress.
• You advise the site leadership team on the local impact and implementation of global IT/OT strategies, digitalization, cybersecurity, and technological investments.
• You translate global business and technology priorities into a multi-year IT/OT roadmap for the site and ensure its execution in collaboration with local and global stakeholders.
• You assess and benchmark local IT/OT suppliers and manage quality and continuity.
• You safeguard OT ownership within Syngenta: governance, documentation, and responsibility lie with you.
• You are the professional advisor for IT/OT issues at the location — from malfunctions to strategic choices and complex technical architecture and automation issues.
• You create support among stakeholders and ensure effective decision-making regarding IT/OT investments and change processes.
• You work closely with Digital Product Managers to realize customer-oriented, SLA-compliant services.
• You maintain, monitor, and improve cybersecurity in both IT and OT environments in alignment with global standards.

We are looking for someone with real depth in IT/OT — someone who feels at home in an industrial environment and understands how modern IT architecture works. You think strategically and are strong in stakeholder management. You are able to handle complex technical subjects and are able to make the translation from global business and technology strategies to local execution. You feel comfortable in conversations with senior management and are seen as a substantive sparring partner in the field of IT, OT, automation, cybersecurity, and industrial digitalization.
