What you'll get
Working at NLR means working in a national and international high-tech environment. Collaboration and involvement are highly valued by us. By giving you freedom and personal responsibility, you are best able to achieve groundbreaking innovations. Do you want to develop yourself both professionally and personally? That is also possible at NLR as a learning organization, supplemented by a training budget, a mentor, internal coaches, and good contacts with vocational, applied sciences, and universities.
In addition to all this, we offer you:
The opportunity to contribute to complex and socially relevant issues;
Sufficient holiday and ATV days (45 in total for full-time employment) for a good work-life balance;
An end-of-year bonus of 8%;
An allowance for your healthcare costs;
Extra paid parental leave;
The possibility to develop yourself with education and courses that match your ambitions.
The role
Do you want to further develop yourself in a high-tech aerospace working environment where the dynamics of the production process and R&D come together? Then apply for this varied job!
Will you help build the technology for the aircraft of the future?
Before a new aircraft design takes to the skies, years of research and development have preceded it. At NLR, we work on these new technologies and test, among other things, aircraft models and innovative concepts in our wind tunnels.
For this, we do not need standard parts, but unique precision parts, prototypes, and test equipment. And we manufacture a significant part of them ourselves.
As a Precision Mechanical Instrument Maker / CNC Machinist, you translate a technical design into a high-quality end product. You program, machine, assemble, and—based on your professional expertise—determine the best approach yourself. No serial production, but a new product every time and the necessary challenges.
What you'll do
You work independently within a driven team on diverse projects for aerospace research. From a drawing or 3D model, you determine for yourself how you can best manufacture a part.
Which machining strategy do you choose? How will you clamp the product? Which tools do you use? And how do you ensure that all parts ultimately fit together accurately?
In doing so, you look beyond just the CNC machining. You understand what you are making, how parts are assembled, and what function the end product will ultimately serve.
We are looking for an independent craftsman or woman who gets enthusiastic about complex technology and precision work. Someone who is at home in machining, but who also specifically enjoys working more broadly with the making and assembly of a complete product.
What will you do?
Your responsibilities include, among other things:
• 3- and/or 5-axis CNC milling and CNC turning;
• independent programming in CAM, using SolidWorks/SolidCAM;
• measuring, checking, fitting, and finishing parts;
• assembling and composing aerospace parts and test equipment;
• thinking along with engineers regarding manufacturability and smart technical solutions.
Who are we looking for?
At least as important to us is that you take ownership of your work. With us, you will receive the freedom and the trust to choose the best approach based on your own professional expertise.
Your new working environment
You will work within Engineering & Technical Services at our location in Marknesse (Flevoland). Here, we possess specialist knowledge and technology for national and international aerospace projects.
Our projects run from concept and engineering to programming, production, instrumentation, assembly, and ultimately the testing of the product.
So, you will not be working in a traditional production environment. R&D and manufacturing industries literally come together here.
Come take a look
Are you a CNC machinist or instrument maker who wants more than serial production? Do you want to determine for yourself how to tackle a technical problem and turn a 3D geometry into a unique end product? Then we would love to meet you.
What does working at NLR mean?
Royal NLR has been a knowledge organization for over 100 years with the will and ambition to innovate. Driven by that motivation, we make the world of aerospace safer, more sustainable, more efficient, and more effective, and we stand for groundbreaking innovations.
More than 1000 driven professionals work with us, from aeronautical engineers to psychologists and from mathematicians to application experts. NLR stands for an inclusive and diverse organization where everyone feels welcome, safe, valued, and respected.
Why this position specifically at NLR?
Because you do not perform just one specific operation here, but are involved in the complete product or project.
At our location in Marknesse, R&D, engineering, and high-end production come together.
What our engineers conceive and develop, we manufacture and assemble for a significant part ourselves. From unique aircraft parts and test equipment to complete wind tunnel models.
No serial production, but unique parts, prototypes, and assemblies for aerospace research.
You work closely with our project engineers and see how your work is ultimately utilized in research and development. An idea originates in engineering, you help to actually make it, and ultimately it is applied in a test or research project.
It is precisely that combination of independence, precision mechanical craftsmanship, machining, and aerospace technology that makes this position special.
