What we're looking for

We're looking for graduates who are passionate about sustainability and creating a better future through innovative engineering. To thrive in this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Currently pursuing, or recently graduated with, a degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (HBO level or higher).
  • Strong command of both Dutch and English (oral and written).
  • A passion for designing sustainable, resilient buildings that make a positive impact on the environment.
  • Motivated, proactive, and eager to learn new concepts and technologies.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and international environment.

You can identify with our vision and want to work in an international environment on Arup's many, often iconic, projects. To ensure that Arup can continue to deliver top quality, we are looking for candidates who meet at least the following criteria:

  • A completed technical education (mechanical engineering) at minimum HBO level.
  • Possess an excellent command of the Dutch and English languages (oral and written).

What you'll do

Launch your engineering career by working on complex, real-world projects that are transforming cities and communities. As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Assist in sustainable building design, focusing on carbon reduction, energy efficiency, and resilience.
  • Develop your 3D modeling skills using BIM/CAD software, creating designs that meet high sustainability standards.
  • Contribute to mechanical load calculations, energy modeling, and the design of HVAC systems, energy storage, and renewable energy solutions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects and electrical engineers, to deliver integrated, impactful solutions.
  • Participate in site visits, client meetings, and project workshops to gain hands-on experience and industry exposure.

As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at Arup, you will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside talented senior engineers and mentors who share the ambition to create a better world. You will work on iconic projects, ranging from laboratories, data centers, museums, commercial and residential buildings that all contribute to the sustainable development of our cities.

Our goal is to help you further develop a range of technical skills and deploy them to create new, remarkable results. With the guidance and support of our senior engineers, you will have the opportunity to gain more experience in the field of:

  • Sustainable design (carbon reduction, energy efficiency, resilient buildings).
  • 3D modeling and BIM/CAD software.
  • Software for modeling energy distribution and generation.
  • Electrical load calculations.
  • Design of power, lighting, fire alarm, telecommunications, and security systems and space planning.
  • Coordination of multidisciplinary requirements from mechanical, public health, fire, and other disciplines.
