Requirements

What we're looking for

We are looking for an independent craftsman with a broad technical interest. Someone with an affinity for machining, but who does not want to stand solely behind a CNC machine.

You have a feel for or experience in how high-quality aviation parts are made, finished, and assembled and enjoy thinking for yourself about the best approach.

At least as important is that you take ownership of your work. Within the small team, you receive a lot of freedom and trust to achieve the best result through your own professional knowledge.

Because here you do not perform one specific operation, but are involved in the complete product or project. At our location in Amsterdam, as a craftsman, you are an important technical hub within the research center. What our R&D engineers devise and develop, we make and assemble here in the workshop.

From unique aircraft parts and test equipment to complete wind tunnel models: you work closely with our project engineers and see how your work is ultimately used in research and development.

It is precisely the combination of independence, precision mechanical craftsmanship, machining, and aviation technology that makes this position special.

Nice to have

Ideally, you have:

· a completed MBO education in aircraft technology, Precision Mechanical Technology level 3 or 4, Research Instrumentmaker or similar;

· experience or affinity with CNC milling and turning;

· experience with CAM programming or the ambition to develop this further;

· experience with precision mechanical assembly and construction;

· a good sense of dimensions, tolerances, fits, and surface quality;

· an independent, accurate, and solution-oriented way of working.

Pay & benefits

What you'll get

Working at NLR means working in a national and international high-tech environment. Collaboration and involvement are highly valued by us. By giving you freedom and personal responsibility, you are best able to achieve groundbreaking innovations. Do you want to develop yourself both professionally and personally? That is also possible at NLR as a learning organization, supplemented by a training budget, a mentor, internal coaches, and good contacts with vocational, applied sciences, and universities.

In addition to all this, we offer you:

  • The opportunity to contribute to complex and socially relevant issues;

  • Sufficient holiday and ATV days (45 in total for full-time employment) for a good work-life balance;

  • An end-of-year bonus of 8%;

  • An allowance for your healthcare costs;

  • Extra paid parental leave;

  • The possibility to develop yourself with education and courses that match your ambitions.

The role

Are you helping build the technology for the aircraft of the future?

How do you develop aircraft that are quieter, more efficient, and more sustainable? At Royal NLR, we research and test new technologies for aerospace. To do this, we develop and build high-quality test equipment, aircraft parts, and complex wind tunnel models ourselves.

As an aerospace mechanic / CNC machinist, you ensure that a design actually becomes a high-quality product. You work independently within a small team and receive a lot of freedom to use your craftsmanship to determine how to best make a part or assembly.

No mass production, but unique parts, prototypes, and assemblies for aerospace research.

What you'll do

You are broadly involved in the development of precision mechanical setups. One time it is bench work, the next time you are busy with CNC machining or the assembly and finishing of complex parts.

You receive a drawing, model, or technical question and subsequently determine a large part of the approach yourself. Which approach do you choose? Choice of materials, how do you clamp the product? Which tolerances are critical? And how do you ensure that the various parts ultimately come together accurately?

Your responsibilities include, among other things:

· Accepting assignments from the organization;

· thinking along about manufacturability and technical solutions.

· CNC milling and turning and programming operations in SolidCAM;

· applying other conventional and precision mechanical processes;

· measuring, checking, fitting, and finishing parts;

· assembling and putting together high-quality aviation parts and test equipment;

In doing so, you work with various materials, complex geometries, and high accuracies. You look beyond just the machining on the machine: you understand what you are making, how it is assembled, and what function the end product has.

About the company & team

You work within Engineering & Technical Services at our location in Amsterdam. You are part of a team that is also based in Marknesse. We work together as engineers, designers, and craftsmen on unique products for national and international aerospace projects.

Our projects run from design and engineering to production, instrumentation, assembly, and ultimately testing the product. That means a lot of variety, little mass production, and above all, plenty of room for your own craftsmanship.

For the Amsterdam location, there is also an aircraft construction or Aerostructures component included.

Do you work in the aviation sector or are you a machinist who likes to do more than just produce parts? Do you find it rewarding to determine your own approach and ultimately have a complete, high-quality product in your hands?

Then we would love to show you our workshop in Amsterdam.

Your craftsmanship. Your approach. Technology for the aviation of the future.
