What you'll get

Working at NLR means working in a national and international high-tech environment. Collaboration and involvement are highly valued by us. By giving you freedom and personal responsibility, you are best able to achieve groundbreaking innovations. Do you want to develop yourself both professionally and personally? That is also possible at NLR as a learning organization, supplemented by a training budget, a mentor, internal coaches, and good contacts with vocational, applied sciences, and universities.

In addition to all this, we offer you:

  • The opportunity to contribute to complex and socially relevant issues;

  • Sufficient holiday and ATV days (45 in total for full-time employment) for a good work-life balance;

  • An end-of-year bonus of 8%;

  • An allowance for your healthcare costs;

  • Extra paid parental leave;

  • The possibility to develop yourself with education and courses that match your ambitions.

The role

Within our team, you will work as an experimental high-speed aerodynamicist on projects for industry, defense, and within European collaborations. In this role, you will combine an experimental approach with semi-analytical models. You will develop and apply measurement, data processing, and analysis techniques. Additionally, you will coordinate and lead aerodynamic and aeroacoustic measurement campaigns in collaboration with the DNW wind tunnels. Because this field is still very much in the pioneering phase within our team, you will receive—together with and supported by the expertise of your colleagues—the unique opportunity to build this research line and the associated experimental methodologies from the ground up.

Alongside the technical work, you will identify opportunities in the market and translate these into commercial offers and research proposals. Because you will manage projects independently from start to finish, this offers you the freedom to provide technical substantive direction. We will support you in this with on-the-job guidance and extensive education and training opportunities.

Your new working environment

You will strengthen the Aeroacoustics team, which, together with the Vertical Flight and Drone Technology teams, forms the Vertical Flight and Aeroacoustics (AVVA) department. The Aeroacoustics team and the Drone Technology team are located in NLR-Marknesse, in the heart of the Noordoostpolder, while the Rotorcraft team is located in Amsterdam. In total, more than 35 driven professionals work within the AVVA department.

A culture of openness and transparency prevails within our team. Everyone shares their opinion here and contributes directly to our success. Research and innovation are what drive us. With a proactive and flexible approach, we work closely with our stakeholders to realize boundary-pushing ideas.

PLEASE NOTE: this position is based in Marknesse, but the testing environment is at the Amsterdam location. You should ideally account for an average of 3 days per week working in Marknesse and 2 days in Amsterdam. Working from home is an option if the work allows it.
