About the team
In today's world of threats, the operational availability of our customers is of great importance, and with that, the provision of good service. Within Thales Hengelo, Services is a rapidly growing domain and is one of the spearheads for the future. The services are provided for the delivered radar systems, including technical assistance, repairs, overhauls, and modifications/upgrades. The total Services department consists of approximately 100 people.
About your future job
In the role of mechanical technician, you will be part of a team of technicians and test engineers working on behalf of Thales at the Royal Netherlands Navy's maintenance organization (DMI) in Den Helder. The Navy has multiple ships equipped with high-tech radar systems from Thales that require support throughout their entire lifecycle. Additionally, radar systems for the Royal Netherlands Army are also maintained in Den Helder. Together with the team, you are responsible for the execution of various service activities.
The onboarding process for the position takes place at Thales in Hengelo for a period between 6 and 12 months, depending on your knowledge and experience. During this period, you will follow various training courses and familiarize yourself with the GM200 system. In Den Helder, you will also be trained on other Thales systems.
After the first 6 to 12 months, you will work primarily on-site with the Navy and potentially at customer locations worldwide to deliver our services to customers to ensure that the systems remain operationally available. Occasionally, you will work at Thales in Hengelo.
Main tasks and responsibilities are
- Anticipates (operational) problems of (sub)systems on location. Performs the diagnosis of the problem and creates a plan of approach to resolve it. Executes the plan and performs the final test.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on the (sub)systems.
- Performs diagnostics and repairs of (sub)systems.
- Performs all activities according to the guidelines, on time and at the required quality.
- Documents all performed activities in a corresponding report.
- Performs inspections of the (sub)systems on location and provides advice for improving the operation of the system.
- Conducting on-the-job training.
- Ensures a safe working environment (HSE guidelines).
- Continuous improvement of processes and delivery results.
- Reporting the progress of the activities to the Team Leader and Department Manager.
Why you are a good match
- MBO level 3 or 4 in the field of Mechanics or Mechatronics
- Some work experience in mechanical engineering is a plus
- Mechanically well-versed and also an affinity with electrical assembly is a plus.

- Proficient in the Dutch and English languages.
- Stress resistance and problem-solving ability.
- Customer-oriented and professional in dealing with the external customer.
- Availability for (international) travel.
