What we're looking for

  • You move easily in different contexts: from a technical discussion with engineers to a strategic conversation with executives or clients;

  • Political-administrative sensitivity is important, as is the ability to structure work, monitor progress, and switch between clients and stakeholders. Even with changing priorities or pressure, you maintain control over planning and quality;

Pay & benefits

What you'll get

Working at NLR means working in a national and international high-tech environment. Collaboration and involvement are highly valued by us. By giving you freedom and personal responsibility, you are best able to achieve groundbreaking innovations. Do you want to develop yourself both professionally and personally? That is also possible at NLR as a learning organization, supplemented by a training budget, a mentor, internal coaches, and good contacts with vocational, applied sciences, and universities.

In addition to all this, we offer you:

  • 45 vacation days (based on full-time employment);

  • a salary that matches your experience;

  • 8% holiday allowance and a fixed year-end bonus of 8%;

  • The costs for traveling by public transport are fully reimbursed. Do you travel by your own transport? Then you will receive a mileage allowance for commuting;

  • An allowance for your healthcare costs;

  • Extra paid parental leave;

  • The opportunity to develop yourself with training and courses that match your ambitions;

  • The possibility to work 32, 36, or 40 hours per week, including working from home.

The role

You operate at the intersection of aviation, policy, and the environment. You bring together your technical knowledge, policy, and practice. You do not need to be a subject matter specialist in every topic, but you will work intensively with the subject matter experts. As a project leader, you are responsible for project management, coordination with the client (together with or in consultation with the experts), planning, and the progress of the project. Your strength lies in quickly grasping complex issues, asking the right questions, and translating specialist knowledge into clear choices and advice.

You listen well, build trust easily, and know how to get diverse interlocutors, from engineers to executives, on the same page. In this way, you help clients make well-founded choices. The projects you work on require a lot of coordination, overview, planning, client contact, and expectation management. In doing so, you can handle political and social pressure well.

In your work, you ensure that projects do not stall due to the gap between what is technically possible and what is legally permitted or required. You ask the right questions, listen well, and can translate complex information clearly. In doing so, you always work together with colleagues from NLR and with external partners. You are the connecting link between the client, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders. Finally, you have an eye for new opportunities and actively think along about new assignments and collaborations.

About NLR

In their own words

About the company & team

The Sustainability and Environment department consists of a group of 40 enthusiastic experts who are always ready to help each other. The group is divided into four teams: Sustainability, Emissions, Noise, and Systems. We all have our own specialisms and preferences, but we are also always open to taking new paths.

In our work, we focus on independent, systematic, and usually technical research into the influence of aviation on the environment. Additionally, we conduct research into the consequences of making aviation more sustainable. The knowledge that we also build up in an international context is directly applied to the daily operations of (inter)national airports and to policy issues for (inter)national governments. Our clients come from the aviation sector and are various governments, such as ministries, provinces, and municipalities.

Royal NLR has been a knowledge organization for over 100 years with the will and ambition to innovate. Driven by that motivation, we make the world of aerospace safer, more sustainable, more efficient, and more effective, and we stand for groundbreaking innovations.

More than 1000 driven professionals work with us, from aeronautical engineers to psychologists and from mathematicians to application experts. NLR stands for an inclusive and diverse organization where everyone feels welcome, safe, valued, and respected.
