What you'll get

Working at NLR means working in a national and international high-tech environment. Collaboration and involvement are highly valued by us. By giving you freedom and personal responsibility, you are best able to achieve groundbreaking innovations. Do you want to develop yourself both professionally and personally? That is also possible at NLR as a learning organization, supplemented by a training budget, a mentor, internal coaches, and good contacts with vocational, applied sciences, and universities.

In addition to all this, we offer you:

The role

Are you that motivated engineer who is challenged to further develop your knowledge of satellite navigation and apply it to both civil and military purposes? And do you want to help make the world more efficient, smarter, and safer? Then read on!

What you'll do

As an R&D Engineer GNSS, you will work with a team to research, develop, and test positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) solutions. Your work focuses on processing GNSS signals, and the impact of GNSS jamming and spoofing. You will work with Software Defined Radios to gain insight into GNSS receiver processing, and you will look at techniques for the detection and mitigation of interference signals. Together with colleagues, you will set up tests to evaluate PNT equipment in relevant GNSS jamming and spoofing scenarios.

What will you do?

Our activities are very diverse and include both knowledge building and knowledge application. Below are a number of examples:

  • researching GNSS receiver techniques to strengthen our knowledge base;

  • processing radio navigation signals, including those from satellite constellations;

  • developing insights into vulnerabilities to GNSS disturbances;

  • testing PNT solutions, including with a GNSS simulator and at the NLR Drone Center;

  • developing robust PNT systems, with interference detection and localization;

  • presenting research results to colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.

The team has regular contact with customers and enjoys providing well-founded advice. We work for and with the government (particularly defense), national, European, and international industrial sectors, other institutes, and universities.

What do you bring?

Working in a structured manner and being eager to learn, you know how to arrive at inventive solution directions. You prefer to work in a team. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following:

  • academic thinking and working level with a completed master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or other technical studies with a comparable background;

  • relevant programming experience, such as Matlab, Python, or C++;

  • relevant experience with the topics of satellite navigation, RF engineering, receiver technologies, and SDRs;

  • ambition to work on innovative state-of-the-art solutions;

  • willingness to work on defense-related projects;

  • strong communication skills and proficiency in the Dutch and English languages (at least C1 level).

What do we offer you?

  • The opportunity to contribute to complex and socially relevant issues;

  • Sufficient holiday and ATV days (45 in total for full-time employment) for a good work-life balance;

  • An end-of-year bonus of 8%;

  • An allowance for your healthcare costs;

  • Extra paid parental leave;

  • The possibility to develop yourself with education and courses that match your ambitions.
