Requirements
What we're looking for
- HBO (Higher Professional Education) working and thinking level in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Maritime Technology, or similar.
- At least 7 years of relevant experience within mechanical engineering, machine building, or the maritime sector.
- Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of FEM analyses and strength calculations.
- Experience with ERP and CRM systems.
- Hydraulic knowledge is a plus.
- Familiarity with the requirements of classification societies such as DNV, Bureau Veritas, and Lloyd's Register.
- Good command of the English language.
- A pragmatic, independent, and result-oriented working attitude.
The role
Are you an experienced mechanical engineer who gets energy from complex technical challenges and from products that are actually built and sail? Then this is a role in which you can maximize your technical expertise.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you are responsible for the design, development, and optimization of mechanical and hydraulic systems for the maritime sector. You will work on products such as rudders, steering gear, thrusters, and hydraulic power units, but for a significant part on the Damen Air Cavity System (DACS).
DACS is an advanced air lubrication system that creates an air layer under the ship. This reduces resistance in the water, leading to lower fuel consumption and fewer emissions. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you play an important role in the further development, engineering, and integration of this system aboard various vessel types. Many ships will be greening their existing fleets in the coming years. With this, you make a direct green impact in shipping.
You are involved from the first concept phase through to production, installation, and commissioning. In doing so, you translate customer wishes and technical requirements into smart, manufacturable, and reliable designs. You perform technical calculations, develop 2D and 3D models, and ensure that designs comply with classification requirements, quality standards, and project agreements.
Thanks to your experience, you take technical responsibility within projects. You analyze complex issues, make substantiated design choices, and monitor technical quality throughout the entire process. Additionally, you coordinate engineering activities and direct external engineering partners where necessary.
For DACS projects, you are closely involved in the technical integration on board. In doing so, you collaborate with customers, shipyards, classification societies, and internal stakeholders to ensure that the system functions optimally within the total ship design.
Together with colleagues from engineering, project management, production, service, and sales, you realize innovative solutions that are applied worldwide.
What you'll do
- Manage, further develop, and optimize a product portfolio in collaboration with Product Management.
- Design and engineer mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Prepare and review 2D and 3D CAD models, concept designs, General Arrangements, and production drawings.
- Perform mechanical and strength calculations.
- Support sales, project management, production, service, and quality control.
- Initiate technical improvements and product innovations.
- Supervise and review engineering work performed by external parties.
- Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams within an international project environment.
- Provide technical guidance during the integration of DACS installations and other complex maritime systems.
