As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you work on the entire engineering process. The customer comes with a request, and based on that question, you think along about the technical solution. You translate customer wishes into a design, develop this in 3D, create detailed drawings, coordinate with colleagues and suppliers, and ensure that production can get started with clear drawings and documentation.

You remain involved through to the practical phase. This means that in some cases you also observe on the shipyard, support testing, check results, and validate designs. This way, you see directly what your engineering does in practice and how your design is ultimately built, tested, and used.

• Translate customer questions into technical concepts and feasible solutions;
• Develop 3D designs in CAD, preferably Autodesk Inventor;
• Create detailed drawings and production drawings for production and suppliers;
• Consult with engineering, production, work preparation, suppliers, and the shipyard;
• Perform technical calculations and use calculation models for, among other things, strength, drive, and mechanical load;
• Support testing on the shipyard, assess results, and validate designs;
• Provide technical documentation and ensure a good handover to production.

About us

Damen Winch Technology (DWT) in Zwolle develops and designs winch systems that must perform under extreme conditions. Think of a winch that must be strong enough to tow an oil tanker, reliable enough to function offshore, and intelligently designed to be deployable worldwide.

As part of Damen Shipyards Group, we work on heavy-duty mechanical systems for the maritime sector. Our winches are applied to Damen vessels and to vessels from other shipbuilders. They are robust installations where mechanical engineering, drive technology, offshore, safety, and reliability come together.

With a small and experienced team, we design solutions that literally enable large movements. Due to the growth of our projects, we are looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer who finds it interesting not only to create individual drawings, but to work on complete projects from A to Z.

The position

In the beginning, you will receive good guidance and get to know our products, calculation models, and way of working. As you grow, you will take on increasingly independent and larger projects. In the long term, you can grow towards Senior or Lead Engineer.

What will you do?

• You start with guidance from experienced colleagues and get to know our products, calculations, and engineering standards;
• After that, you receive increasing responsibility for your own designs, calculations, and detailing;
• Your projects become larger and more complex step by step;
• You grow into an independent role in which you maintain an overview from request to production and validation;
• With further development, you can grow towards Senior Mechanical Engineer or Lead Engineer.
