The role

  • You will receive end-to-end ownership over products that contribute directly to the availability, reliability, and safety of the rolling stock.
  • You determine direction and priorities at strategic and tactical levels, precisely where IT, production, maintenance, data, and engineering converge.
  • You work with experienced professionals and specialists in a complex chain, with both the space and the mandate to translate vision into measurable product value.

What you'll do

Within the Maintenance cluster, you will take product ownership for the Manufacturing Execution System (MES): the business-critical heart of the production line for wheelset overhaul. You will develop a future-oriented product vision, safeguard operational continuity, and accelerate digitalization. In the long term, you will expand your portfolio with INFOR LN[Av1].

You ensure that MES optimally supports people and processes and that investments demonstrably contribute to the ambitions of NS Train Modernization. Together with the Scrum Master and the development team, you create focus and tempo, while you independently steer on vision, value, and priority. Additionally, you play a key role in the migration from Baan to INFOR LN, the ERP system for the NSTM locations in Haarlem and Berkel-Enschot.

This is a role with visible impact. You bring IT, data, and rolling stock maintenance together, foresee dependencies, and make well-founded decisions in a playing field where continuity, safety, and innovation must constantly be in balance.

As a connecting representative of the customer, user, and business, you realize together with the team:

  • stable management and purposeful further development of products within the maintenance domain;
  • clear governance, effective collaboration, and proactive decision-making with internal and external chain partners;
  • continuous improvement of availability, reliability, user value, and (cyber)security.

Your main responsibilities

  • You translate a convincing product vision into concrete objectives, a supported strategy, and a realistic roadmap, and make the contribution to business goals visible.
  • You direct the product backlog, prioritize sharply on value, risk, and dependencies[Av2], and provide the team with clear frameworks to deliver predictably.
  • You translate complex business needs into clear requirements and acceptance criteria and monitor the quality of delivered functionality based on the jointly established Definition of Done.
  • You steer on outcome instead of just output and make the realized value for business, user, and operations measurable.
  • You create support at director, management, and team levels[Av3], break deadlocks in the face of conflicting interests, and strengthen ownership and collaboration.

Where you will work

At NS Train Modernization in Haarlem, you work in the midst of an impressive technical operation. In large production halls, approximately 400 technical specialists work on major maintenance and modernization of trains. It is precisely the combination of scale, physical processes, and high requirements for safety and availability that makes this an environment in which mature product management delivers directly noticeable results.

NS Train Modernization handles the overhaul, modernization, and damage repair of trains and the maintenance of axles and wheelsets. We work project-driven in a complex chain with multiple departments, locations, and disciplines. This requires overview, decisiveness, and the ability to connect strategy and execution.
