The role
- You will get the chance to work with the large NS toolset, where a wide range of technologies and machines await you to tinker with.
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in the professionalization of technical services within NS
- You ensure machines are working properly so that your colleagues can maintain the trains safely.
What you'll do
As a Technical Service Technician, you will be part of a team dedicated to the optimal performance of our trains in the Netherlands. Together with your colleagues, you ensure that all our technical workshops and the associated equipment remain in tip-top condition. This allows our train technicians to perform their work efficiently and ensures our trains can safely and quickly return to the rails. No two days are the same, and you will visit various NS locations within the Randstad South region. Every day starts with a professional coffee and friendly colleagues from your fixed base in Leidschendam. Your tasks include:
- Providing maintenance and resolving faults on a varied range of machines, installations, and tools at different locations. For example, you might replace a forklift battery in the morning that turns out to be defective, and in the afternoon be busy resolving a fault in the train wash installation.
- Performing technical analyses to prevent faults and optimize maintenance, in close cooperation with the maintenance engineer. Performing modifications to various equipment and tools to ensure they remain up-to-date and meet the latest standards.
- Actively contributing to the resolution of safety incidents and ensuring quality and safety. These are our top priorities, and we take them extremely seriously.
- Directing and supervising external parties.
- Actively thinking along and contributing to the development of new work processes that lead to more efficiency and effectiveness in our daily work. We believe in continuous improvement. At NS, it is all about teamwork and a passion for technology. Your positive commitment makes a difference every day in ensuring our operations run smoothly.
Where you will work
You will work at the Technical Service of the Leidschendam Maintenance Company and the Randstad South Service Company, part of NS Maintenance and Service. You will be part of a team of seven technical service technicians, one work planner, and the regional manager. You will work in a fixed schedule from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Additionally, you will work on-call in a rotation with your colleagues, and you may be called out outside of regular working hours during those times. You will almost always start your day from the maintenance company in Leidschendam. Company buses are available for you to use when you need to travel for a job. The fun part is that you work among the trains, where a great diversity of technology awaits you to tinker with, both in a team and independently. Within NS, the technical services are currently undergoing a professionalization drive. The challenge for the team is to master the new way of working, processes, administration, and possible improvements.
These are the job requirements
- You have at least a completed MBO level 3 education in a technical direction (hard requirement), such as mechatronics, control technology, or electrical engineering.
- You have at least 3-5 years of experience in a technical environment, preferably in a role where complex faults also play a role. Reading an electrical schematic is no problem for you.
- You have good analytical skills.
- Safety is a top priority for you.
- You have sufficient knowledge of data software to be able to read and use it during analysis. • You are accurate and safety-conscious.
- You possess a driver's license.
- At NS, we work with the following three behavioral characteristics: speaking up, courage, and readiness to change. For this position in this team, the emphasis lies on readiness to change - if you do not like change, then this is not the place for you. This means you make an active contribution to changes because you get energy from them.
