The role
That is why you want to work as a Software Asset Manager (medior) at NS
"As a Software Asset Manager, you ensure that we know exactly which software we use, which agreements go with it, and where opportunities or risks lie."
What you'll do
- You work at the intersection of IT, software licenses, data, contracts, and costs, giving you a broad view of the organization.
- You will be given the space to perform analyses independently and to further develop your expertise within Software Asset Management.
- You will work on current and future SAM issues, from compliance and cost optimization to developments surrounding AI and governance.
As a Software Asset Manager (medior), you help NS maintain control over software, licenses, usage, costs, and compliance. You will handle regular SAM issues independently and ensure that analyses and findings are properly and demonstrably recorded. For more complex issues, you will work together with experienced Software Asset Managers.
Thanks to your analytical skills and knowledge of Software Asset Management and licenses, you will be of invaluable value in:
- Managing and controlling software and license data and improving the quality and reliability of SAM/ITAM data.
- Performing license, usage, and compliance analyses and investigating discrepancies in data and software usage.
- Identifying and substantiating licensing risks, savings opportunities, and chances for optimization.
- Assessing software contracts and license terms and, in coordination with corporate lawyers, advising on risks, obligations, and impact.
- Supporting renewals, software inventories, lifecycle management, and vendor and contract issues.
- Preparing and maintaining reports, dashboards, SAM processes, and work instructions.
- Collaborating with colleagues within IT, the business, Procurement, and Contract Management.
Our organization is constantly in motion. Therefore, we are looking for a Medior Software Asset Management Specialist who not only possesses a solid foundation of knowledge and skills but also has the potential to learn and enjoys adapting to new situations.
In this position, you will get the space to further deepen your knowledge of licensing models, compliance, contracts, lifecycle and vendor management, and cost optimization. We also look ahead to developments surrounding AI and what these mean for software, licenses, usage, costs, and governance. As your knowledge and experience grow, you will take on increasingly complex IT and SAM issues independently and develop further towards a more advisory and controlling role.
Where you will work
The Central Platform Organization (CPO) is part of NS IT and is focused on collaboration and enablement of our IT and business colleagues. We provide IT services that form the foundation for an agile IT organization and positively impact the traveler. We do this with a focus on innovative products and services, such as workplace, platformization, Developer Journey, and Operations.
You will join a SAM/ITAM team of four driven professionals. It is a compact team with a lot of expertise, in which you will work closely with colleagues from IT, Procurement, Contract Management, and the business. Together, you will ensure control over IT assets, optimal use of software, and a future-proof IT organization. Wednesday is the team's fixed office day. Additionally, you will work at the office whenever necessary for collaboration or the work.
At NS, we find diversity and inclusion important; it makes working together more fun and often improves the result. Therefore, your background or personal beliefs do not matter: we are primarily curious about your vision for the role of Software Asset Manager.

At NS, we find development potential important. For this position, as far as I am concerned, the emphasis lies primarily on quickly mastering and applying new knowledge. Software Asset Management changes continuously, for example, due to new licensing models, cloud usage, and developments surrounding AI. Therefore, we are looking for someone who remains curious, quickly grasps new developments, and knows how to translate these into SAM practice.
To ensure this, an assessment focused on Learning Agility may be part of the selection procedure. This gives us insight into your ability to learn, be flexible, and deal effectively with changes.
At NS, we work with the behavioral characteristics "speaking up and addressing issues," "courage," and "readiness to change." For this position in this team, the emphasis lies on speaking up and addressing issues. This means that you make findings, risks, and optimization opportunities clearly discussable, even when different interests are at play, and that you can substantiate your advice with facts and analyses.
