WSP is a global consultancy and engineering firm that provides technical expertise and strategic advice to clients in the field of spatial planning. We offer you the opportunity to gain experience within our Water & Environment department, both as a working internship and a research internship. We are looking for someone with a great interest in the energy transition and the collaboration between grid operators and government parties in this process. And who is available from January/February 2027!
Energy transition is a necessity and you want to contribute to it. Plans have been made and agreements have been reached. Now is the time for action: the development, setup, and execution of large-scale energy projects. Within these complex projects, we—with our main client TenneT—are continuously looking for the optimal collaboration. In our projects, we increasingly reach the conclusion that spatial integration and environmental management are decisive preconditions for the challenges in the energy transition.
If it appeals to you to work on feasibility studies, spatial plans, and permit scans for new routes and locations for wind or solar parks, then you are very welcome. Your team designs our future living environment!
Research questions that the internship could focus on include, for example: How can task-oriented working improve the collaboration between grid operators and governments in the energy transition? What opportunities does integrated area development offer for the energy transition? What can environmental managers and planning managers in the energy domain and the water domain learn from each other? We would love to discuss your ideas and the concrete implementation of your research question with you.
On the other hand, we offer you the possibility to participate in projects and do a true working internship. Projects you might work on include the feasibility studies for expansions of the high-voltage grid around Amsterdam or in northeast Groningen, or spatial substantiations and permits for the realization of new cables, line connections, and stations. View our website for more examples. Our main client is TenneT, and in addition, we work for parties such as Liander and Vattenfall.
You will become part of the Water & Environment department and work alongside our specialists. We challenge you to apply your skills within our consultancy and engineering firm! The team you will be part of consists of approximately 40 people.
The work and management take place primarily at our office in Nieuwegein. It is possible that you will also occasionally visit the Arnhem office, where the technical specialists in the field of Energy are based. This will allow you to get to know the company and its projects better.
On one hand, we offer a research question, and on the other, the possibility to participate in projects. Together, we will determine the balance between the two.
You will join us within a multidisciplinary team of specialists. You will be assigned a permanent supervisor and, thanks to our informal atmosphere, you can always turn to your other colleagues. We offer you the chance to develop broadly within our company and together we ensure a creative and inspiring working environment. Naturally, a fair compensation for your internship work is a matter of course with us.
You feel completely at home within the field of energy transition and spatial plans and permits. You enjoy working on a project basis and are able to contribute your knowledge of spatial plans and governance to projects. You are eager to learn and have a proactive mentality with good Dutch communication skills. You are pursuing a university (WO) degree in social geography, planning, spatial planning, environment & society, environmental & infrastructure planning, or a similar field of study.
When considering a career change, it is essential to work for a company that aligns with your values and goals, a place where you can feel at home.
We are one of the world's leading engineering and professional services companies. Our trusted employees share a common goal to make a positive and lasting impact on the communities we serve through a culture of innovation, integrity, and inclusion.
Hesitating to apply? Just do it! We are proud of promoting diversity, equal opportunities, and professional integration within our teams, and we are convinced that our differences and an inclusive work environment contribute to our development. All applications will be carefully considered.
With us, you can.
