WSP is a global consultancy and engineering firm that provides technical expertise and strategic advice to clients in the water domain. We offer you the opportunity to gain experience within our Water & Environment department, both as a working internship and a research internship. We are looking for someone with a great interest in streams and rivers and the cooperation between various government parties involved. And who is available for an internship starting from January or February 2027!
Climate change and the associated extremes of high and low water present major challenges to water managers at national and regional levels. In our projects, we increasingly reach the conclusion that the challenges in the water domain require different forms of cooperation between governments and with society.
Think, for example, of extreme rainfall in the Limburg hills that leads to flooding, or the drying out of the floodplains of our rivers, which puts natural values and agricultural use under pressure. In both cases, it is not just about a technical solution to the problem, but precisely also about the question: how do governments and societal partners work together?
Research questions that the internship could focus on are, for example: How can task-oriented working improve cooperation between governments on major societal challenges? What form of cooperation is needed to enable integrated spatial planning using sectoral resources? We would love to discuss your ideas and the concrete implementation of your research question with you.
On the other hand, we offer you the possibility to participate in projects and do a true working internship. Projects you might work on include the various dike reinforcements along the major rivers that we are working on and various stream restoration and flood prevention projects in Limburg. Check our website for more examples. Our clients are mostly water boards, Rijkswaterstaat, and provinces.
You feel completely at home within the field of rivers and cooperating government parties.
You enjoy working on a project basis and are able to contribute your knowledge of water management and governance to projects.
You are eager to learn and have a proactive mentality with good communication skills.
You are pursuing a university (WO) degree in social geography, urban planning, spatial planning, environment & society, environmental & infrastructure planning, or a similar field of study.
You are available for an internship starting from January or February 2027.
When considering a career change, it is essential to work for a company that aligns with your values and goals, a place where you can feel at home.
We are one of the world's leading engineering and professional services companies. Our trusted employees share a common goal to make a positive and lasting impact on the communities we serve through a culture of innovation, integrity, and inclusion.
Hesitating to apply? Just do it! We are proud of promoting diversity, equal opportunities, and professional integration within our teams, and we are convinced that our differences and an inclusive work environment contribute to our development. All applications will be carefully considered.
With us, you can.
You will become part of the Water & Environment department and work alongside our specialists. We challenge you to apply your skills within our consultancy and engineering firm! The team you will be part of consists of approximately 40 people. The work and management take place primarily at our office in Nieuwegein. It is possible that you will also occasionally visit another office, thereby getting to know the company and its projects better. On one hand, we offer a research question, and on the other, the opportunity to participate in projects. Together, we will determine the balance between these.
