The role

Keeping the Netherlands running, that is our mission.

As a Grid Planning and Analysing Specialist, you ensure that the electricity grid remains future-proof. Together with your team, you offer specialized knowledge and skills in a specific field to stimulate innovation and support the successful execution of projects, initiatives, innovations, and/or daily activities. You identify the frameworks and guidelines applicable to your specific field, translate these into a business context to enable business results, and provide guidance to ensure efficiency and compliance that contribute to a stable and sustainable energy system.

The energy transition requires a smart, reliable, robust, affordable, and future-proof development of our electricity grid. Therefore, it is crucial to stay continuously informed about how the electricity grid will evolve and where future constraints and opportunities arise. As a Grid Planning & Analysis specialist within the Programs & System Studies team in the Design department, you play a key role in performing complex system studies, where you assess the impact of future energy scenarios together with our stakeholders to obtain a coherent picture of the future development of the grid.

You make a direct contribution to TenneT's strategic objectives, such as security of supply, sustainability, and strengthening our infrastructure. In this role, you are responsible for identifying opportunities and bottlenecks in the national transmission grid arising from national energy policy, regulatory compliance studies, and internally driven grid analyses for all time horizons (0-5 years, 5-15 years, and 15-25 years). With your experience in complex system analysis, you ensure that future grid development enables electricity transmission that meets all requirements regarding grid safety and stability, and that coherence between different studies is maintained.

As a Grid Planning & Analysing Specialist, you contribute to strategic grid development by performing complex grid planning studies. You provide the analytical basis for future grid investments and decisions regarding system development. You translate technical analyses into insights and recommendations that support investment planning and decisions on system development. You combine the outcomes of various analyses into a coherent whole and provide advice to support decision-making within TenneT. In doing so, you contribute to a reliable, robust, and future-proof electricity grid.

To support well-founded decision-making, you translate research needs into analyses and assess and interpret their outcomes. You translate the results into advice for internal stakeholders, input for discussions with external stakeholders, and actionable insights for network planning. You are able to deal with uncertainties and sensitivities, and with different stakeholder perspectives.

You monitor whether changes in demand, generation, congestion risks, system developments, and investment plans still align with the assumptions underlying the grid vision and planning studies. You provide analytical expertise, validate assumptions, and ensure consistency between long-term scenarios, insights into congestion, and network development plans.

With this, you contribute to the design of a reliable, robust, and future-proof electricity grid and make a direct contribution to TenneT's strategic objectives: security of supply, enabling the energy transition, and realizing efficient infrastructure investments.

What you'll do

Your responsibilities include:

- Ensuring future-proof grid development by assessing alternative grid strategies, system development scenarios, and options for grid expansion.

- Performing and coordinating network planning and system studies to map out future network needs, identify constraints, and evaluate possible trajectories for network development.

- Acting as an expert in multidisciplinary projects and working groups. For example, by providing support for TenneT's contribution to ENTSO-E working groups, the preparation of the European ten-year network development plans, and the ongoing development of TenneT's interconnector strategy.

- Providing specialist advice based on research results and supporting decision-making processes.

- Contributing to harmonized methodologies for grid development, planning standards, and analytical frameworks within TenneT.

Results and KPIs

Success in this role is measured by:

· Robust, future-proof, and feasible grid development and planning.

· Delivering high-quality research and analyses.

· Accurate and timely documented specialist advice and input for reports.

· Effective contribution to multidisciplinary projects and collaboration with stakeholders.

· Development of expert knowledge of analytical tools and methodologies and contribution to further methodological improvements.

You are part of the Programs & System Studies team within Design and report to the Manager Programs & System Studies. You work closely with stakeholders within Design and maintain contact with national authorities to ensure that network development studies and advice are based on a consistent picture of future capacity needs and system constraints.

In this way, you contribute to identifying investment projects, complying with regulations, and supporting the government in shaping national energy policy.

Experience and background

Competencies

  • Dealing with complexity: the ability to understand large amounts of complex and sometimes conflicting information to solve problems effectively.
