What we're looking for
We are looking for an HBO student in Integral Safety Science with an interest in occupational safety, risk management, and data analysis. You are analytically strong, work independently, and know how to translate safety engineering issues into practical improvements. Affinity with Power BI, Excel, or similar analysis tools is a plus, but more important is that you know how to thoroughly understand the safety issue.
The role
Westfort annually records occupational accidents, incidents, near-misses, and their consequences. Although much safety information is already available through existing QESH registrations, Westfort wants to take the next step: moving from recording incidents to actively using data to predict risks, recognize trends, and prevent occupational accidents.
What you'll do
During this internship, you will investigate how safety data within Westfort can be collected, recorded, analyzed, and presented in a reliable manner. The goal is to create a foundation for data-driven safety management, where insights from data lead to targeted preventive measures and a safer working environment.
You will map out the current safety registrations, processes, and data sources and investigate the quality of the available data. Subsequently, you will develop a structure for recording and classifying incidents and accidents. You will also analyze historical safety data to make trends, hotspots, and recurring causes visible.
Additionally, together with stakeholders from QESH, Operations, and management, you will establish relevant safety KPIs. Think of incident frequencies, absenteeism accidents, absenteeism days, types of injury, and department-specific risks. You will then translate this information into a practical Power BI dashboard that provides insight at various organizational levels. Finally, you will formulate concrete improvement measures and a plan to structurally secure data-driven safety management within Westfort.
What do you deliver?
At the end of the internship, you will deliver, among other things:
An analysis of the current safety registration;
An overview of data sources and data quality;
A uniform classification model for incidents and accidents;
A data dictionary with clear definitions;
A set of relevant safety KPIs;
An analysis of historical safety data;
Insight into trends, hotspots, and recurring causes;
A prototype of a Power BI Safety Dashboard;
Advice for preventive measures and securing them within the organization.
