Internship Work Preparation and Execution Civil Engineering in Rotterdam

Are you an MBO or HBO student in Civil Engineering or a similar field looking for an internship where you don't just learn from books, but truly put the profession into practice? With us, you will work on the renewal of three viaducts around the Kethelplein in Schiedam. A technically challenging infrastructural project where you gain experience in both work preparation and execution, and see firsthand how your work becomes reality!

On behalf of Rijkswaterstaat, Van Hattum en Blankevoort is getting to work on the renovation and partial replacement of three viaducts on the A4 and A20: Hargalaan, Zoomweg, and Bijdorp. The viaducts have been in use for decades and are being renewed so they can continue to be used safely and reliably in the years to come. During your internship, you will be part of the project team within work preparation and execution. For example, you will assist in preparing activities, checking drawings and planning, and regularly accompany the site manager on the construction site. This way, you get to see firsthand how a complex infrastructural project is prepared and executed. The project is technically challenging and therefore offers a lot to learn. At the Hargalaan and Zoomweg viaducts, the decks will be milled to, among other things, repair damage to the end beams and replace bearing blocks. At the Bijdorp viaduct, it involves a larger intervention: the existing decks will be demolished and replaced by new decks, and the foundation will be reinforced. The middle support point will also be removed, making the passage for cyclists and pedestrians wider.

In addition, you will be given the space to work on your own internship assignment and further investigate a technical or organizational issue within the project. You will learn the profession primarily by doing it yourself and will receive good guidance from experienced colleagues. The beauty of this internship? You are working on a project that has a major daily influence on the accessibility of Rotterdam and the surrounding area. And you will literally see your work on and around the A20!
