Thesis Assignment: Working in the Realization Phase of Integral Projects

Within large infrastructural projects, multiple disciplines carry out the work together. In managing the project, it is of great importance to have good insight into the progress and quality of the work of the individual disciplines, as these activities interlock and determine the total project progress and quality.

As the main contractor and ultimately responsible party, Van Hattum en Blankevoort must maintain the overview. In this regard, we are dependent on subcontractors for a large part of the work. To gain more insight and control over this as a main contractor, generating data during the realization phase could provide support to increase the predictability and reliability of the project.

Through VSF, our own foundation company, we have since undergone a development in which we have equipped our own foundation machines with data management systems that can read and interpret data and make current predictions regarding progress and quality. We would like to continue this development to the other activities within a project, which are often carried out by subcontractors under our direction. We are looking for a driven TU student who wants to research this.

• Which activities are relevant for generating data to monitor the progress and quality of an integral project?

• What is the impact on existing processes? Is this a new way of working, and if so, what needs to change?

• What challenges are there in making the desired data available from all parties involved?

• How can the generated data be used to monitor and predict (integral) progress and quality, and to what extent can the development for the foundation machines be used?

During this assignment, you will receive guidance from both design and execution practice. We offer you access to relevant projects, knowledge holders, and an open research scope where you can truly leave your mark.
