The role

Arcadis is the global partner at the forefront of the most impactful projects of our time. We help our clients make sustainable choices through the combination of digital innovation, expertise, and future-oriented skills in areas such as environment, energy, water, buildings, transport, and infrastructure. We take that extra step to offer our clients tailored solutions for design, engineering, and consultancy. By utilizing data-driven insights, we shape the natural and built environment together.

With more than 34,000 people, we bundle global expertise and tackle challenges such as climate, affordable energy, and livable cities together. We improve quality of life through our presence in more than thirty countries.

What you'll do

Extreme weather, drought, heat, growing cities, and complex subsurfaces - the issues surrounding urban water are becoming increasingly challenging.

As an Urban Water Advisor, you develop climate-adaptive and water-robust solutions in the complex urban environment. You work on projects that truly matter: from local climate-conscious urban restructurings to large-scale infrastructure, such as Zuidasdok. For municipalities, you might draft Water and Sewerage Plans and Climate Adaptation Strategies, or advise area developers on the water management of new construction plans. These are projects where you can make an impact at various scale levels.

You operate at the intersection of policy, strategy, and design, taking a leading role within them:

  • You translate climate risks and water challenges into policy and/or concrete design choices and
measures. You act as the substantive lead or process facilitator in policy and planning trajectories within the urban environment
  • You work directly with municipalities, water boards, provinces, and area developers, and you know how to represent and connect their interests
  • You make an active contribution to tenders and quotes - thereby helping to secure projects
  • You coach colleagues and help further develop the field
  • Do you have experience or affinity with project management? That is a welcome addition!

Projects you work on include, for example:

  • Water and Sewerage Program for the municipalities of Wageningen, Gennep, and Breda. In these programs, you develop the policy for municipal water tasks.
  • Shaping the water management of a new area development, such as the Zuidasdok Development and Haansberg Etten-Leur. Together with specialists, you develop a water system that is climate-adaptive; think of sufficient water storage, the separation of water flows, and the integration of water into the surroundings.
  • Climate adaptation strategy for the municipality of Bladel: you focus on the strategy for local challenges such as heat stress, drought on sandy soils, and water nuisance.
  • Advising on the water nuisance issues in the Pathmos district in Enschede; you investigate, with an integral team of hydrologists and architects, possibilities to prevent water nuisance in the district.
