As a nurse at the HIC at the Nieuwe Valerius, you are an important link in the treatment of patients with severe psychiatric disorders. If you want to use clinical reasoning for complex care questions and have a substantial voice in the treatment of patients, then you are in the right place at the HIC.

• The high intensive care clinic is an acute admission ward with 21 beds. We treat patients between the ages of 18 and 60 with very diverse backgrounds and varying psychiatric conditions who are in a severe crisis. In doing so, we make use of various treatment methodologies, including MBT, ECT, various conversation techniques, and strong medication policies. 

• Our goal is to avert the crisis and strive for a short-term admission in close cooperation with the patient, their loved ones, and outpatient care. We work according to the HIC model for this.

• Although admissions are often not voluntary, we strive to minimize coercion and compulsion. 

• The HIC of the Nieuwe Valerius has been renovated. We have a separate ICU/ EBK on the ward. This allows us to provide even better care, following the latest HIC methodology, to our patients.

• Our multidisciplinary team consists of nurses, supervisors, psychiatrists, doctors, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and experts by experience. We have excellent partnerships with hospitals and other healthcare clinics.

• Our team is characterized by an open learning climate where much attention is paid to feedback, initiative, and intervision. We build on each other and there is room for fun and relaxation.

• As a nurse in the HIC, you work with a close-knit team in a rapidly changing ward climate. A high turnover of patients places a great demand on your professional nursing skills. Clinical reasoning, being decisive, and strong communication skills make you suitable for this very interesting workplace. 

• In the HIC, we manage severe crises in patients with the aim of helping them as quickly as possible to participate in society to the best of their ability. 

• You draw up support plans, implement them, evaluate them, and adjust them if necessary. You identify crisis situations and offer support during interventions. You coordinate care in consultation with the patient and their loved ones, in alignment with the team of practitioners. Additionally, through clinical reasoning, you monitor the somatic vulnerabilities of our patients, for example, in ECT patients.

• You also play an active role in providing guidance and support to other team members, such as interns and students.
