Civil Engineering Design Lead

Due to significant growth in the Netherlands, WSP BU Transport & Infrastructure wants to strengthen the expertise of our Infra/Water Engineering team in Breda. We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineering Design Lead.

In this role, you will join a multidisciplinary team that embodies our company's core values: solidarity, a passion for large-scale and complex projects, and a spirit of innovation and conviviality.

As a design lead, you are the trailblazer within the design team; for both infrastructure and hydraulic engineering structures. You are involved in complex multidisciplinary projects such as the design of locks in Sweden, the construction of the Oosterweel Link or the renovation of the Krammer Locks, but also in smaller specialist projects.

You will collaborate extensively with international colleagues within Dutch and foreign projects. You will do this for all design phases; from feasibility studies to detailed design. Together with your team, you will work for various clients: contractors, port authorities, municipalities, provinces, water boards, Rijkswaterstaat and, for example, ProRail. Through you, we can better control the design processes, enabling us to realize buildable and safe designs. Your core activities consist of:

• Setting the design course regarding scope, quality, time, and budget;

• Defining the design brief, structuring design processes, and overseeing contractual aspects;

• Preparing progress reports and coordinating with stakeholders on a technical and organizational level;

• Leading a multidisciplinary team; you enjoy transferring your technical knowledge to our juniors and mid-levels and thus contributing to their development.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for technology, holds quality in high regard, and gains energy from contributing to the further development of our department. You solve the challenges that come your way, and you are not afraid to step off the beaten path. Furthermore, you meet the following requirements:

• A completed HBO/WO degree in Civil Engineering;

• At least 5 years of relevant work experience in a design lead role, in which you have experience leading project teams. A passion for hydraulic engineering is considered an advantage;

• By nature, you maintain a good overview and, through your strong communication skills, you easily keep others involved in the project;

• Due to the international character, a good command of the Dutch and English languages is important.
