AI Fairness & Ethics Intern

You are curious and enjoy diving into new technologies and societal issues. Additionally, you work in a structured manner and know how to clearly analyze complex information and translate it into practical solutions. You also have strong communication skills and switch easily between different teams and stakeholders.

Furthermore, you have:
• You are following a HBO or WO (higher professional or university) education in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Science, Statistics, or similar
• You have basic knowledge of AI, machine learning, data analysis, or generative AI
• You have a good command of both the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written

• Maximum internship allowance of €675 per month for a 40-hour internship

During this internship, you will play a central role within Stedin's AI Governance team. You will investigate fairness, bias, and transparency within AI solutions and develop a reusable fairness analysis template that complies with the EU AI Act. In doing so, you will collaborate with teams within data science, process automation, and generative AI. Your work helps Stedin to apply AI in a fair, transparent, and responsible manner.

A day as a fairness analysis intern
• You start the day with a stand-up in which AI teams share their latest innovations and challenges.
• After that, you dive into the EU AI Act and research how fairness and bias can be made measurable.
• Together with data scientists, you discuss an AI model and discover which fairness risks require attention.
• In the afternoon, you work on your fairness template and translate complex subject matter into practical guidelines.
• You end the day by presenting insights to the AI Governance team and incorporating feedback into a new iteration.
