The role
Bringing train sets without passengers to their destination in a safe and efficient manner; you make it happen!
Before our NS trains are 'released' onto the Dutch tracks, mechanics and cleaners have already given the train sets a thorough overhaul. We do this in various teams in NS service companies throughout the Netherlands. As a machinist at Onderhoud & Service, you ensure that the train sets are brought to the right place at the right time so that passengers can travel without delay in a clean and safe train.
What you'll do
We inspect, repair, and clean trains on a regular basis. From the outside and the inside. In the role of machinist at Onderhoud & Service, you play an important role in this process. By driving the train sets to the right destination at the right time, you complete the job. Ultimately, you are co-responsible for the safe and punctual departure of the train. You know how to achieve this successfully, partly through the use of collaborative qualities and stress resistance when:
- Shunting train sets without passengers.
- Assembling trains.
- Operating the train wash installation, where all trains are cleaned externally.
- Collaborating with different teams (for example, mechanics, cleaners, work planners).
- Ensuring quality and safety: your most important pillars.
- Thinking along and designing new work processes that lead to more efficiency.
How you'll work
It happens in Eindhoven; that is where we shunt our trains. You will do this in a small team of 10 enthusiastic machinists who support each other where necessary. You will work in a roster with irregular shifts (early, late, night).

Training
Have you been hired? Then you will follow an internal training program of 52 weeks (36 hours per week). You will work in practice at the location under the guidance of a workplace mentor, and you will attend lessons at the NS Learning Center in Amersfoort. This allows you to combine professional knowledge with practical experience.
More information about the training program can be found here.
Hiring process
Well? Do you think you can handle this responsible task on your own?
Apply directly. Within a few minutes, you will receive an automatic application confirmation. Within three working days, you will receive news about your application.
Good to know:
- At NS, we find everyone unique. You see this in everything we do, and therefore also in our recruitment policy.
- The application procedure includes, among other things, a background check and requesting a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).
- With this vacancy, we wish to recruit our new colleague ourselves. This is therefore NOT a call for acquisition.
