Help the aviation industry transform digitally and develop into the tech leader of tomorrow! As a Business & Tech Management Trainee at Air France-KLM, you will work on groundbreaking projects from day one: from smart digital platforms to the deployment of AI in our operations. You will lead agile teams, build innovative solutions, and help determine the technological course of an international organization.

What will you do?

The KLM Management Traineeship consists of four tracks: Business & Tech (English-speaking track), Finance, Engineering & Maintenance, and Corporate. You will start the traineeship together with all trainees and attend masterclasses, tours, and training sessions every Friday, so that in addition to your own track, you also get to know other disciplines. As a trainee, you are part of the general KLM Management Traineeship program and will specifically discover a division within your track through the four challenging assignments you perform. In this way, you develop both broad management skills and in-depth expertise in your field. Through professional guidance and coaching, you will be continuously supported and trained throughout the two-year traineeship to become the best version of yourself, both professionally and personally. You will discover who you are, where your talents lie, and how you can use them to make an impact. After the traineeship, provided both parties have had positive experiences, you can grow into a full-time position within KLM and thus further shape your career. During the two-year traineeship, you will work on four different assignments within the dynamic operational world of KLM. In each assignment, you will receive direct responsibility and work on projects that truly matter. For example:

  • Cargo IT projects: as a product owner, you will work within an agile team on a new digital platform for freight forwarders, from the first minimum viable product to the go-live.
  • International IT implementations: you will lead a team rolling out Office 365 solutions and ensure smooth collaboration between Amsterdam, Valbonne, Toulouse, and Paris.
  • Innovation with AI: you will investigate how artificial intelligence can help optimize the schedule and analyze large data sources.

As a result, you will develop both strategic insight and technical expertise and play a crucial role in the digital transformation of Air France-KLM. Furthermore, during the traineeship, you will have the opportunity to put new technologies into practice: you will set up a team for API development, contribute to the implementation of innovative self-service check-in equipment at Schiphol, lead the introduction of a private ChatGPT environment within Air France-KLM, and develop digital integrations with SkyTeam partners. In this way, you play a crucial role in the digital transformation of the organization, while developing both strategic insight and technical expertise.

Where will you land?

Your workplace is flexible: your location is Schiphol-Rijk, the Tech location of KLM. You can also work at the headquarters in Amstelveen or at Schiphol, and you will regularly work together with colleagues in France (Valbonne, Toulouse, Paris). You work hybrid, depending on your assignment. You are part of an international team of trainees, IT specialists, and managers.

The atmosphere is open, innovative, and inspiring: you will be given plenty of room to come up with your own initiatives and can always rely on the knowledge and experience of colleagues. Within the lively Trainee Community network, you will meet other young professionals who are just as ambitious and driven as you. This network regularly organizes activities (such as drinks and weekend trips), (substantive) events, and sparring sessions. Together you learn, inspire each other, and build a powerful network that gives your career a flying start.

Your profile

You switch effortlessly between different projects, from strategy to execution, and actively look for new ways to use technology for smart solutions. You make contact easily, enjoy working with people from different backgrounds and cultures, and know how to enthuse others with your ideas and approach. You reflect on your own actions, dare to ask for and give feedback, and are not afraid to try out new technologies, even if you do not yet have experience with them.

Furthermore:

  • You have a (completed) HBO or WO degree in, for example, business administration, data science, computer engineering, information management, or another digital field;
  • Well-developed analytical skills
  • You have a passion for technology, with an interest in themes such as generative AI, cloud computing, sustainable IT, robotics, autonomous operations, virtual & augmented reality, DevSecOps, or data science; and you can demonstrate that you have an affinity for IT, for example by developing applications or leading a tech project;
  • You are familiar with design thinking, Agile & Lean, or scrum;
  • You speak and write English fluently at C2 level;
  • We cordially invite starters and young professionals to apply; preferably you have a maximum of 2 years of relevant work experience, but ambition, motivation, and the ability to learn are more important.

In addition, you recognize yourself in the following competencies:

  • Interest and potential for leadership: you are constantly developing yourself and show that you can grow into a future leadership role.
  • Problem analysis: you quickly see where bottlenecks lie and come up with smart solutions;
  • Result orientation: you persevere and ensure that projects are brought to a successful conclusion;
  • Collaboration: you work effortlessly with colleagues from different backgrounds and disciplines, and you can connect across departments;
  • Ownership: you take responsibility for your assignments and actively contribute to improvement;
  • Innovation: you continuously look for smart, efficient ways to improve processes and projects;
  • Resilience: setbacks do not throw you off balance; you remain focused and enthusiastic;
  • Self-starter: you identify opportunities and take initiative. You do not wait around but take action yourself.

In our diverse KLM organization, we work towards an inclusive atmosphere in which you can be yourself, regardless of how you look, what is in your passport, how you identify, what your religious beliefs are, or whom you embrace when you come home. It is not about who you are, but how you are. A disability or a special need should not be a barrier to applying. Is there something we should take into account? Please let us know, and we will look together at how we can make your application a pleasant experience.
