The role

Technical work through which you make a sustainable difference for people

A wheelchair, mobility scooter, or hoist means freedom and independence for many people. When such a device returns to Kersten after use, your work begins.

As an Assistive Device Reuse Technician, you ensure that used assistive devices can be deployed safely and reliably again for the next client. You inspect, repair, and test devices so they can be reused by someone who needs them.

At Kersten, we handle assistive devices sustainably. We do not automatically reject something; devices and parts that still have value are given a second life wherever possible. At Kersten, we call this Maximally Circular: a way of working in which we reuse as much as possible and waste as little as possible. We are pioneers in this. Kersten is the first organization in the medical assistive device industry to be certified at level 4 of the Circular Performance Ladder. With your technical craftsmanship, you contribute directly to this every single day.

What you'll do

You work with assistive devices that are returned from users and must be made ready for reuse again. You assess, clean, inspect, repair, and make devices technically ready for reuse. Your duties include:

  • Assessing assistive devices upon arrival;
  • Cleaning and disinfecting assistive devices;
  • Checking for wear, damage, safety, and functionality;
  • Repairing defects and replacing parts;
  • Checking electrical components such as batteries, chargers, motors, controllers, cabling, and lighting;
  • Checking mechanical components such as brakes, tires, bearings, frames, attachments, and adjustments;
  • Technically adapting assistive devices for the next user;
  • Performing safety and final inspections;
  • Recording performed tasks, parts used, and serial numbers;
  • Reporting devices as ready for delivery.

How you'll work

Location: Houten and Den Haag

Hours: 32-38h per week

More than just repairing

Preparing assistive devices for reuse is more than just fixing a defect. For every device, you ask yourself three important questions:

  • Is the device technically safe?
  • Is it technically and functionally suitable for reuse?
  • Is it sensible to redeploy the device?

Sometimes you repair a device. Sometimes you replace parts preventatively, such as tires, brake parts, or other wear parts. And sometimes you conclude that a device can no longer be deployed responsibly. Your technical insight makes the difference in that.

Why this position is special

This is no standard technician role. This is a special position for a technical man or woman who can make a difference in the field of sustainability through their craftsmanship. You have a direct influence on:

  • The quality of our assistive devices;
  • The safety of clients;
  • The ability to redeploy assistive devices;
  • Stock availability;
  • The cost of assistive devices;
  • Client satisfaction;
  • The reduction of waste.

Every day you see the result of your work: a device that, thanks to your craftsmanship, is valuable to someone else once again.

Working at two locations

This position is part of Kersten's internal flexible workforce. This means you perform your duties at both our location in Den Haag and in Houten. You work where your efforts are most needed at that moment. Therefore, we preferably seek a candidate who lives in the region between both locations and enjoys having variety in work location.

What do you bring?

You are technically handy, work accurately, and get energy from tinkering, solving, and improving. You find it important that a device is delivered safely and correctly.

Experience with assistive devices is a plus, but not a requirement. We are happy to teach you the finer points of the trade.

What do we offer you?

At Kersten, you get a technical position in which you see what your work means every day. You ensure that assistive devices can be reused safely and that clients are helped again quickly.

We offer you

  • A varied technical position with social impact;
  • Working at the leader in circular assistive device care;
  • A position where technology, sustainability, and care come together;
  • A dedicated team with enthusiastic colleagues;
  • Room to further develop yourself;

Ready to contribute?

Do you want to contribute to good care and satisfied customers with your administrative and communicative skills? Then we would love to meet you.

We value direct applications. Acquisition by agencies and freelancers will not be followed up.
