As a nurse, do you truly want to make a difference for elderly people facing complex psychiatric issues?
At the Open Geriatric Clinic of the Nieuwe Valerius, you will be given the space to apply your expertise within a specialized multidisciplinary team.

You will work with elderly people aged 65 and older who have been admitted due to acute psychiatric problems. Your insight is of great value precisely when psychiatric, somatic, and socio-economic problems converge.

You help clients with daily care where necessary, act as a point of contact for families, but above all, your observations provide an important voice in treatment and potential diagnostics. Together with the other disciplines, the client, and the family, we determine how we can best help someone.

As a nurse in the geriatric open ward, you are an indispensable link in our team. You work closely with colleagues and bring structure to the care of our clients.
Your day consists of observing, signaling, and guiding, always with an eye for detail and a heart for the client.

At GGZ inGeest, we strive to restore self-reliance, so that clients can participate in society as independently as possible.
You play a key role in this by, together with the multidisciplinary team, drawing up, implementing, and adjusting support plans where necessary.

Crisis situations? You keep a sharp eye on them and offer the right support when needed. You coordinate care in close consultation with the practitioners, the client, and their loved ones.
You also offer help with daily care and hygiene, and provide valuable guidance to interns and students within the team.

• The Open Geriatric Clinic of the Nieuwe Valerius is a Top-GGZ inpatient ward with 21 beds. Our clients are 65 years and older and have acute psychiatric problems. Think of severe depression, psychosis, various forms of dementia, somatic symptom disorders, and catatonia.
  The issues are often complex. The ward is therefore also specialized in performing clinical second opinions, with special attention to, among other things, persistent depression, complex neuropsychiatry, and complex end-of-life wishes.

• Because we are an open ward, preserving autonomy is central. Together with clients and their loved ones, we search for treatment goals that are meaningful to them.
  We work towards the best possible functioning and the highest possible quality of life.

• We offer short-term biopsychosocial treatments and, together with the client, map out the lines for outpatient follow-up. In doing so, much attention is paid to the socio-economic context. In addition to medication, rTMS, ECT, and esketamine within a study context, there is room for psychotherapy and group treatments.

• You will work in a broad multidisciplinary team including nurses, group leaders, psychiatrists in training, a nurse practitioner in training, a dietitian, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, creative arts therapist, social worker, clinical neuropsychologist, psychologists, and basic psychologists.

• This clinic offers 24-hour care; therefore, we ask you to participate in shift work.
