The role

Some people experience the world differently. Not only because they are visually impaired or blind, but also because they have an auditory and intellectual disability. In those cases, structure, trust, and genuine contact make the difference.

As a Day Activity Support Worker at Bartiméus in Doorn, you help clients to get the most out of their day. You do not look at limitations, but at possibilities. With patience, creativity, and attention, you ensure a day full of development, fun, and valuable moments.

What you'll do

No two days are the same. One client may need clarity and predictability, while another enjoys movement, an activity, or a pleasant conversation in their own way. You adapt to what someone needs and help clients feel safe, seen, and heard.

Communication plays an important role in this. You will learn to speak the client's language, for example using (simplified) Dutch Sign Language, referents, pictograms, or other communication tools. In this way, you make contact possible, even when words are not straightforward.

Together with your colleagues, you ensure a pleasant, meaningful day in which clients can develop and be themselves.

  • You provide structure, peace, safety, and fun,

  • You identify changes in behavior and respond to them carefully. You also observe and analyze behavior and discuss this with colleagues.

  • You reflect on your own actions and you continuously learn from one another.

  • You work closely with colleagues from residential and day activity services to provide clients with the best possible support.

Requirements

Your job as a Day Activity Support Worker for hearing and vision impairments at Bartiméus in Doorn

You will work at the De Weegbree day activity center at the beautiful, wooded location in Doorn. Here, you provide day activities for adult and aging clients with a visual, auditory, and intellectual disability.

A special combination of residential and day activities

You will work primarily in day activities, which is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Additionally, you will work one start-of-day shift per week at one of the residential homes. You will start at 07:00 or 07:15 and help residents with a calm and pleasant start to the day, after which you transition to the day activities together with them. In this way, you guide clients both literally and figuratively from the beginning of their day to a pleasant fulfillment of it.

Sporadically, you will work a shift at the residence on a Wednesday. This allows you to remain closely involved with the clients and work together with your colleagues from residential and day activity services to create a familiar and recognizable environment for every resident.

Thanks to these regular working hours, you have a nice balance between work and private life. Furthermore, you do not work night or sleep shifts.

Working with the hearing and vision impairment team

You will join a dedicated and close-knit team where colleagues are there for one another. We find humor, collaboration, and attention for each other to be at least as important as good care.

Whether you start as Support Worker A or Support Worker B: your talent and commitment make the difference.
