Urban Area Development Advisor

Role description:
As an urban area development advisor, you will work on area-oriented tasks, proactively involving the necessary expertise that Arcadis has to offer integrally. You will work in multidisciplinary teams across various phases of area development, from vision to execution. Based on your expertise, you will place "feasibility" at the center. You understand the (financial) interests of stakeholders and dare to think outside established frameworks when quality or progress is at stake. You can read and write integral business cases. In this way, you make the feasibility of an area task transparent in an efficient and effective manner. You are able to fathom the planning content of the area (ambitions, vision, interests, stakeholders, etc.) and, in coordination with stakeholders, translate it into a broadly supported and executable plan with clear development agreements. It is important that you understand the interests and working methods of both commercial parties and governments. You can adjust (unrealistic) expectations so that maximum achievable value creation can be focused on for all involved stakeholders.

Role responsibilities:
You provide strategic advice to governments and market parties; you steer the process, engage the right parties, and provide governance advice. Sometimes as an advisor or process accelerator, sometimes as a financial expert. For example, you create an investment agenda for urbanization, a business case for an area vision, link cash flows for a sustainability concept, develop a development strategy, or conduct negotiations with stakeholders. Additionally, you contribute to the continuous innovation and development of our advisory services.

• Drafting integral area visions and development strategies: for example, for the redevelopment of city centers, new residential areas, or business parks.
• Analyzing development scenarios and conducting variant studies: which option is the most sustainable, feasible, and future-proof?
• Advising municipalities and property developers: providing clear analyses, substantiated advice, and concrete perspectives for action.
• Collaborating in multidisciplinary teams: with designers, energy and climate experts, mobility specialists, planners, and financial experts.
• Contributing to projects with social impact: such as greening urban areas, making real estate more sustainable, or improving water management and mobility.
• In addition to working on projects, you also contribute to tenders and quotes, work on new propositions and tools, contribute to knowledge development and sharing, and contribute to the development of the team.

Project Management & Consulting Advisory Group
You will work within the PM&C (Project Management & Consulting) advisory group, in the Urban Area Development Team. With approximately 20 colleagues, we work as directors of the city of the future. We are proud of the projects we work on and want to realize social added value. The team has a large variety of juniors, mid-levels, and seniors. A helpful and collaborative working atmosphere prevails, not only within the team but within the entire advisory group.

We work together physically twice a week, in Amersfoort and Amsterdam. On the other days, you work from home, at clients, or at one of the Arcadis offices in the Netherlands (Rotterdam, 's Hertogenbosch, Arnhem, Zwolle, Maastricht). An open and collaborative working atmosphere prevails within the team. Through mentor groups, team meetings, monthly markets, and fun team outings, we exchange experiences and knowledge and work together on the development of the team.

Qualifications & Experience:
We are looking for a connecting team player who gets energy from leading complex projects in an integral way, in which care for people and the urban environment is essential. You enjoy working at an international company that has all the expertise in-house to tackle the major issues of our time. You like to think along in solutions and possess the (financial) knowledge required to perform this work well. You have experience with urban area development projects, you move easily within a large network organization, and you excel in communication and flexibility. You contribute to knowledge sharing within Arcadis and work accurately and independently.

• WO work and thinking level;
• Have at least 7 years of experience within area development;
• Bring sound financial/area economic knowledge and experience that enables you to interpret and manage development tasks in a realistic manner;
• You do not get stuck in vision, but know how to translate it into common goals and find support for this;
• You can strategically weigh opposing interests and, in politically sensitive situations, bring parties closer together and forge alliances;
• You see opportunities in the market or within your network to independently acquire assignments for Arcadis;
• You are experienced in developing (integral) business cases.
• Have a drive to make a difference by tackling social challenges that matter.
• Excellent command of the Dutch and English languages.
