HBO/WO-stage EHS: Wastewater Management

HBO or WO in Industrial Engineering or a comparable field of study.

At this moment, data regarding water usage and wastewater is available, but it is fragmented and insufficiently linked to the primary process. As a result, integral insight is lacking, which complicates the identification of optimization opportunities. This project focuses on developing a standardized data visualization in which clean water usage, wastewater values, and the link with the production process are made transparent, so that stakeholders can better steer towards performance and sustainability.

• Identifying and unlocking relevant data sources (water consumption, wastewater, and production data)
• Defining and standardizing KPIs, such as:
  • Water consumption per line, product, or batch
  • Wastewater values and deviations
  • Trends and variations in usage and pollution
• Assessing and improving data quality and consistency
• Analyzing connections between water flows and production activities
• Identifying deviations, losses, and improvement opportunities
• Determining possible causes of variation (root cause analysis)
• Developing a user-friendly and visually clear dashboard solution
• Validating the visualization with stakeholders (Production, EHS, Utilities, Quality)

At Abbott, during your internship, you will be guided by the content supervisor of the department where you will be interning. Additionally, you will receive a process supervisor, who will help you manage your internship project via a management tool. We use the DMAIC structure for this, but if your program requires a different structure, we can also implement that. By having 2 supervisors for content and structure, you learn how to deal with various stakeholders and how project management works, and together we monitor the progress of your project. Every week you will participate in a student meeting, where all interns come together to help each other, learn from each other, and for the social aspect!
