Internship Work Preparation and Execution Civil Engineering in Amsterdam

As a student of Civil Engineering, Built Environment or similar, are you looking for an internship in work preparation and execution? At Van Hattum en Blankevoort, we are looking for an intern for February 2027 for the project Brug 215 Paulusbroedersluis.

During your internship, you will become part of the project team working on the replacement of a monumental bridge in the historic city center of Amsterdam. You will get the chance to get acquainted with all facets of a civil engineering project: from preparation to execution.

You will support the project team with, among other things:

• the preparation and planning of activities

• the drafting of work and execution plans

• the development of logistical solutions for the city center

• coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors

• the preparation of procurement processes

• monitoring planning and progress

• supporting execution at the construction site

• identifying and solving technical and organizational issues

In addition, you will be given the space to take your own initiatives, contribute ideas, and work out assignments independently. Naturally, you will be guided in this by experienced colleagues from work preparation, execution, and project management.

Because you are active both in the office and outside at the work site, you will gain a good insight into how a design is ultimately realized and what challenges are involved.

Naturally, you will receive sufficient space for your own internship assignments and studies.

On behalf of the Municipality of Amsterdam, Van Hattum en Blankevoort is realizing the replacement of Brug 215 Paulusbroedersluis, located in the Amsterdamse Burgwallen.

This monumental bridge is located in the middle of the historic city center of Amsterdam. The replacement requires a precise balance between engineering, execution, monument care, logistics, and environmental management.

Within the project, you will deal with:

• a monumental bridge structure

• work on foundations, concrete, and steel structures

• logistical transport over water

• a busy urban environment

• residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors who must remain accessible

• intensive cooperation with the Municipality of Amsterdam, designers, suppliers, and executing parties

What makes this project special is that almost every challenge from civil engineering comes together within one project. As an intern, this gives you a unique insight into the practice of complex infrastructure projects.
