The role
At KWS Waterbouw, you work on projects that literally keep the Netherlands dry. As an environmental manager for Hydraulic Engineering, you contribute to an integrated approach during the tender phase, striving for optimal cohesion between technology, nature, and social interests. In the execution phase, you translate this approach into practice and provide concrete implementation. With your insight and approach, you make a difference in socially relevant projects that contribute to a safe and dry Netherlands.
Your job
As an environmental manager within KWS Waterbouw, you are responsible for stakeholder management and the conditioning of our hydraulic engineering projects. Think of dike reinforcements such as the Markermeer dikes, Hansweert, or KIJK (Krachtige IJsseldijken Krimpenerwaard), where collaboration with water boards, municipalities, residents, and nature organizations is essential.
What makes your role as an environmental manager for Hydraulic Engineering unique is that you are at the table from the very first idea. In the tender phase, you distinguish yourself by contributing to a winning, integrated solution. In the execution phase, you manage external risks and capitalize on opportunities arising from the environment. Based on your expertise, you delve into the project's surroundings. You map out interests and constraints and develop smart, feasible solutions—whether in collaboration with colleagues or independently—and translate these into convincing plans. You actively participate in dialogue sessions with the client and ensure that the environment is given a full place within our proposal. In doing so, you safeguard the conditioning constraints in the planning, budget, and the risk and opportunity dossier, so that these are integrally included in our proposal. In this way, you lay the foundation for the project as early as the tender phase. You ensure that environmental management is not an afterthought, but a strategic component of our success.
In the execution phase, you are the face of the project to the outside world and the connecting link within the project team. You actively maintain contact with local residents, organize information meetings, and coordinate with governments and other stakeholders. At the same time, you lead a team of specialists in the field of conditioning, from ecologists to permit coordinators. You ensure that all constraints are fulfilled in a timely and careful manner. In this, you move smoothly between interests, risks, and opportunities and always know how to find the right tone. This keeps the project on track and the community engaged. You are not just building infrastructure, but also building trust.
