The role

Keeping the Netherlands running, that is our mission. At TenneT, we work every day on the electricity grid of tomorrow. With one clear ambition: a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy system for the future. As an Environmental Manager, you stand in the middle of this transition and provide direction to projects that have a direct impact on the energy future of the Netherlands. Are you ready to make the difference?

A large expansion program, a strong demand for rapid solutions in an environment with many different functions, interests, and developments. In the river area of Central Netherlands, TenneT is at the beginning of projects that solve grid congestion and enable the energy transition, such as the expansion program in Rivierenland. Before we can build, space must be found. For this, spatial decisions are needed that the environment can support. As an environmental manager, you ensure that the voice of the environment counts, from landowners and interest groups to local governments and the ministry. Because you join at the exploratory phase, you build your network from the ground up and become the face of TenneT here. Therefore, we are looking for an environmental manager who, together with a fellow environmental manager, will take on this role in Central Netherlands and build sustainable relationships with stakeholders for the long term.

What you'll do

As an environmental manager, you connect the environment with our projects. You translate the wishes of the environment to the project, and the interest and necessity of the project to the environment. You are the fixed face of TenneT for the environment from planning to realization. You are currently focusing on planning, but always keep the long-term relationship with the environment in mind. With clear plans, securing customer requirements in the correct systems, and strong communication, you contribute to a traceable, transparent, and therefore supported environmental process.

  • You are the primary point of contact for the environment surrounding one or more TenneT projects in Central Netherlands. You engage in dialogue with external stakeholders and landowners, know what is happening in the region, and maintain intensive contact. You have your feet in the clay, because that is where you make the difference.
  • You listen well to the environment, signal important points of attention among stakeholders, and act decisively yet thoughtfully. You work extensively with stakeholders who are emotionally involved. You take their concerns seriously and handle them with care. You also remain firm in the face of resistance. In doing so, you pay attention to your own safety and that of your colleagues: you support each other and never go out alone.
  • You shape participation processes and coordinate their execution. Together with the communications advisor, you prepare the external communication and participation processes of the projects.
  • You follow current events, political-administrative developments, and TenneT's plans in the region for the medium and long term. You translate these into what they mean for the region and your projects, and you make the technical choices of our grid strategists understandable to the environment. You prepare dossiers, maintain them, and share the information with the project teams.
  • You work closely with your fellow environmental manager, the regional director, partners in the region, and colleagues within and outside the team who also have external contacts in this region. Together, you build a broad network, an integrated stakeholder approach, a consistent story, and a strong reputation for TenneT in the region.
  • You work according to a uniform approach and with standardized tools for environmental management. Where possible, you involve market parties. You delegate work to them and monitor the quality of what they deliver.

You join an environment team of 43 colleagues from various disciplines. In multidisciplinary project teams, you work together on the preparation and realization of projects in Central Netherlands. The environment team and the project teams see each other regularly at our head office in Arnhem.

How you'll work

You are regularly found in the region and are visible to stakeholders: you do not only work behind your desk, but in the middle of the environment. You work alternatively from our head office in Arnhem, at project locations in the region, or from home. Additionally, it frequently occurs that you are out in the evenings for information evenings and meetings with the environment.

TenneT offers you the chance to contribute to a sustainable energy future. Together with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders, you will work on innovative solutions that make the energy transition possible. With us, you will get the space to develop your talent and work in an environment where your growth is central.

We offer you

  • A permanent contract with a two-month probationary period, based on 32 to 40 hours per week.
  • A salary in scale 8: €4,276 to €8,443 per month with 8% holiday allowance, 6% end-of-year bonus, and 70% pension contribution.
  • A solid pension via ABP: we pay 70% of your premium.
  • 43 leave days per year.

All mentioned employment conditions apply to full-time employment, unless stated otherwise.

We attach great value to a good work-life balance and your personal development. Therefore, we offer flexible solutions such as:

  • Hybrid working, including a travel allowance, internet allowance, and a home office allowance.
  • Support for your vitality, with a contribution towards a sports subscription and health insurance.
  • Development opportunities via the TenneT Academy, so that you can continue to expand your knowledge and skills.

We stimulate initiative and give you the space to come up with new ideas. Together, we ensure that the Netherlands stays in motion and is ready for the energy of tomorrow.

Main tasks

At TenneT, we look for professionals who contribute to an effective and future-proof project organization. We expect you to have the right experience and skills to make a valuable contribution to our team and our mission. Therefore, we ask of you:

  • A completed HBO or WO degree in communication, public administration, or spatial planning.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with participation processes and stakeholders, preferably in complex infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with planning procedures and with the process of reaching a required decision.
  • Affinity with technology: you can talk shop with grid strategists and translate electrotechnical jargon into clear language for the environment.
  • Experience working with external parties who take on work for you. You are good at delegating.
  • Professional command of both the Dutch and English languages.

Do you not yet have much substantive knowledge of the electricity grid? No problem: you will simply learn that with us on the job.

Competencies

To truly make a difference in this role, you recognize yourself in the following competencies:

  • Customer orientation: You know what is happening with landowners, residents, and other stakeholders and anticipate their needs independently. You follow up on matters so that questions and problems are truly resolved, and you use their feedback to improve your approach.
  • Balancing interests: You explore the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders and seek balanced solutions. You enjoy working multidisciplinarily and bring the perspectives of colleagues and stakeholders together in fair, transparent assessments.
  • Action orientation: You work independently and hands-on, with thoughtful action as a starting point. You take timely action on important issues, seize opportunities in a playing field that is still very much in motion, and tackle difficult challenges without pushing them in front of you.

Within TenneT, much attention is paid to diversity and inclusivity. By working together with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, we get better ideas, work more safely, and everyone feels they belong.
