The role

Keeping the Netherlands running, that is our mission. At TenneT, we work every day on the electricity grid of tomorrow. With one clear ambition: a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy system for the future. As an Environmental Manager, you stand in the middle of this transition and provide direction to projects that have a direct impact on the energy future of the Netherlands. Are you ready to make the difference?

New 380/150 kV stations such as A9-Zuid, Amsterdam South-East, expansion of existing 150 kV stations, and underground cable connections: in North Holland, TenneT works on projects that solve grid congestion and make the energy transition possible. Before we can build, space must be found. By involving and properly informing the environment in a timely manner, we can make careful choices. We work purposefully towards support from the environment, allowing us to execute projects better, faster, and within budget. Therefore, we are looking for an environmental manager who can take on this role in North Holland and build sustainable, long-term relationships with stakeholders.

What you'll do

As an environmental manager, you connect the environment with our projects. You identify important points of attention from the environment for the project and from the project to the environment. Many projects in the North Holland region are in the planning phase, where political decisions must be made by governments. You communicate choices made to our stakeholders. Your focus lies on the process of obtaining the right to space in order to start construction. By maintaining contacts, recording minutes of meetings, and translating stakeholder requirements to the project, you form the connection between the outside world and the project.

  • You are the primary point of contact for the environment surrounding one or more TenneT projects in North Holland. You know the most important stakeholders and their issues, and you maintain intensive contact with them.
  • You identify important points of attention among stakeholders and take action in a timely manner. You work extensively with stakeholders who are emotionally involved. You take their concerns seriously and handle them with care.
  • You shape participation processes and coordinate their execution. Together with the communications advisor, you prepare the external communication and participation processes of the projects.
  • You follow current events, political-administrative developments, and TenneT's plans in the region for the medium and long term. You translate these into what they mean for the region and your projects. You prepare dossiers, keep them up to date, and share the information with the project teams.
  • You work closely with the regional manager, with partners in the region, and with colleagues within and outside the team who also have external contacts in this region. Together, you build an integrated stakeholder approach, a consistent narrative, and a strong reputation for TenneT in the region.
  • You work according to a uniform approach and with standardized tools for environmental management. Where possible, you involve market parties. You delegate work to them and monitor the quality of what they deliver.

You join an environmental team of 27 colleagues, including environmental managers, communications advisors, planners, and private law advisors. In multidisciplinary project teams, you work together on the preparation and realization of projects in North Holland. The environmental team and the project teams see each other regularly at our Hub in Amsterdam.

How you'll work

You are regularly to be found in the region and visible to stakeholders: you do not only work behind your desk, but in the middle of the environment. You work alternatively from our Hub in Amsterdam, the head office in Arnhem, at project locations in the region, or from home. Additionally, it frequently occurs that you are out in the evening for information evenings and meetings with the community.

How do you keep the Netherlands powered?

Main tasks

At TenneT, we look for professionals who contribute to an effective and future-proof project organization. We expect you to have the right experience and skills to make a valuable contribution to our team and our mission. Therefore, we ask of you:

Competencies

To truly make a difference in this role, you recognize yourself in the following competencies:

  • Balancing interests: you explore the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders and seek balanced solutions. You enjoy working multidisciplinarily and bring the perspectives of colleagues and stakeholders together in fair, transparent assessments.
  • Action-orientedness: you work independently and hands-on. You take action in a timely manner regarding important issues and tackle difficult challenges without pushing them aside.

This role falls within the job profile of Communications & Stakeholder Affairs Advisor, so that it is clear for both you and TenneT which responsibilities, expectations, and growth opportunities belong to this position.

Within TenneT, much attention is paid to diversity and inclusivity. By working together with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, we get better ideas, work more safely, and everyone feels they belong.

TenneT offers you the chance to contribute to a sustainable energy future. Together with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders, you will work on innovative solutions that make the energy transition possible. With us, you will get the space to develop your talent and work in an environment where your growth is central.
