The role

  • You provide direction to complex energy issues that affect the stations, real estate, and the development of NS Stations.
  • You will help build Team Energy as a recognizable point of control and expertise, where energy knowledge, data, administration, and advice come together.
  • You advise on topics such as grid congestion, energy consumption, generation, storage, flexibility, and energy reduction.
  • You bring different interests together and prepare choices for management, the board, and other responsible parties.
  • Your work contributes to a future-proof energy supply and to the sustainable accessibility of the Netherlands.

Marc: "As a Senior Energy Advisor, you look beyond a single installation, contract, or project. You help NS Stations to view complex energy questions in context and prepare the choices that are necessary for the stations of tomorrow."

Energy increasingly affects more parts of NS Stations. Questions about technology, energy consumption, costs, laws and regulations, data, and sustainability are interconnected. Team Energy provides reliable information, substantive expertise, and control over the challenges, so that NS Stations can make the right choices.

As an Energy Advisor, you oversee the energy domain in its full breadth. You investigate complex issues, bring different perspectives together, and translate your analysis into clear scenarios and advice. You work across the boundaries of teams and disciplines, keeping the broader interest of NS Stations in mind.

Thanks to your substantive knowledge and experience with strategic decision-making, you are of great value in:

What you'll do

  • Developing vision, policy, and frameworks for the energy domain;
  • Performing multidisciplinary analyses and translating them into clear courses of action;
  • Advising management and the board on choices, opportunities, dependencies, and risks;
  • Organizing case management for complex energy files;
  • Connecting technology, administration, energy data, finance, operations, and sustainability;
  • Preparing decision-making on, among other things, grid congestion, generation, storage, flexibility, contract types, and energy reduction;
  • Designing and improving cross-departmental processes, governance, and collaboration agreements;
  • Leading complex projects and guiding the transfer to the regular organization;
  • Representing NS Stations in collaboration with internal and external partners.

During execution, you collect signals and energy issues, make options and consequences transparent, and monitor progress, transfer, and escalation. You translate recurring insights into policy, working methods, and the energy vision.

In doing so, Team Energy does not take over ownership or technical execution. The team organizes insight and collaboration, prepares choices, and places decisions where they belong.

These are the job requirements

You do not need to fully know every development within the energy domain yet. We are primarily looking for someone who has a sufficient substantive foundation to oversee complex issues and involve others in them.

For this position, the emphasis lies on providing direction through content and control. You make it clear which choices are necessary, bring the right people together, and ensure that the issue is resolved in the right place. In doing so, you do not take over responsibilities from other teams.

These are the employment conditions

Working at NS means that you can make *the* difference in the world of sustainable mobility. You become part of an organization that stands in the middle of society and keeps the Netherlands moving. But as one of the largest employers in the Netherlands, we have so much more to offer you. For this position, this includes:
