The role

  • With your knowledge and expertise, as a client, you will have control over the entire maintenance process of the stations in your own region.
  • You make an impact on our stations; in the role of building surveyor, you ensure that these are optimally maintained and provide a pleasant and safe stay for our travelers.
  • You will be on location frequently and, over the years, you will get to know our stations well, including all their special architectural details and peculiarities.

Loes: "Stations are centers in cities and villages, and real estate plays a special role in society. Our people are allowed to care for that, and what they get back is the versatility of the work due to the different typologies of buildings and activities. So, a large network with stakeholders and suppliers. No two days are the same! People make the station!"

What you'll do

Ensuring that our travelers and tenants use optimally maintained station buildings. That highly varied responsibility belongs to you. As a building surveyor at NS Stations, you are responsible for the entire maintenance process. In doing so, you fulfill the role of client. You lead the executive activities to provide the maintenance. These can be regular activities on roofs, facades, or floors, but also tailor-made maintenance activities that (for example) relate to special details such as art objects or monuments. The fun part is: the stations vary in size, spatial integration, and architectural style. From monumental to hyper-modern and every station is laid out differently; shops, restaurants, bicycle storage, and escalators—everything can be found there. This requires different architectural techniques as well as architectural knowledge and expertise regarding the maintenance process.

As a building surveyor at NS Stations, you are regularly on the road to visit the stations. This is how you get to know our stations and record the necessary maintenance in the maintenance system. During your work, you pay attention to the safety of travelers and tenants, and you ensure that they experience no nuisance from the maintenance activities. Additionally, you are given the space to put your own spin on the work preparation and other aspects of the job.

Thanks to your architectural knowledge, expertise, and experience with building maintenance, you are of invaluable importance in:

  • Determining the architectural maintenance needs of our station buildings and the assets housed within them.
  • Drawing up multi-year maintenance plans and budgets.
  • Checking and financially processing maintenance activities by, among others, architectural parties.
  • Answering questions from owners and tenants about various architectural, sometimes complex, issues regarding our station buildings.
  • Advising colleagues and clients about building maintenance during renovation and new construction projects and sustainability processes.
  • Advising the NS Service Desk regarding very complex malfunctions, such as leaks. There is no on-call service/standby duty in this position; in principle, the permanent contractors are managed 24/7 by the NS Service Desk.
