Requirements
What we're looking for
You are a professional with relevant work experience;
You can work both independently, in a team, and multidisciplinarily;

Nice to have
You have an HBO diploma in Therapeutic Practice (preferred), Social Work, SPH, or Art Therapy;
You have experience and affinity with visual arts/working with images;
You have experience and affinity with both group work and individual work;
Languages
To start successfully in this role, it is important that you have a good command of the Dutch language (minimum B2 level) due to contact with, among others, patients and colleagues. Additionally, it is a requirement that you are permitted to work in the Netherlands (EU/EEA nationality or a valid work permit)
Pay & benefits
What you'll get
Depending on education and experience, the salary is at least € 3,626 and at most € 5,134 gross per month for a full-time employment. This salary is exclusive of holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% of your gross annual salary.
The role
As an activity therapist, you are the indispensable link in the psychosocial guidance of patients confronted with illness, treatment, and/or hospitalization. With your creative methodologies and sharp communication techniques, you help them—both individually and in group settings—to regain autonomy, self-reliance, and quality of life. You do not offer standard solutions, but real impact at the moments when it matters most.
As an activity therapist in our MUMC+, you guide somatically (seriously) ill patients aged 16 and older with acute, chronic, and/or complex clinical pictures. No two days are the same: you are deployable hospital-wide and are ready for a highly diverse patient group: from oncology and trauma injuries to early rehabilitation and complicated pregnancies.
The rapidly changing situation of your patients requires your flexibility, creativity, and tailored care. With short-term, methodical, and experiential interventions, you provide control and resilience. You do this both individually and in group settings.
Employment contract
This concerns a temporary employment contract of one year for an average of 16 hours per week in accordance with article 2.4.2 of the Cao umc. These hours are distributed over 4 mornings. If suitability is demonstrated and there is sufficient capacity in the workforce, the possibility for extension exists after the conclusion of the temporary employment contract. Start date is January 1, 2027.

About the company & team
Organizationally, the Activity Therapy department is part of the Transmural and Paramedical Care (TPZ) expertise unit. The vision of TPZ is as follows: 'Together with care partners, we facilitate and stimulate person-centered care in the chain; at home if possible, elsewhere if necessary. In doing so, we offer the patient and their immediate environment the opportunity to live their own lives optimally, alongside the consequences of illness.'
The Activity Therapy team consists of 4 activity therapists who are trained at HBO level and have additionally trained as ACT therapists (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy). We do not sit still: we keep our expertise sharp by actively participating in training and symposia, and we share our knowledge via national networks with other hospitals.
As a supporting department, you are in the midst of the clinical dynamics. You work closely with doctors, nurses, and other paramedical professionals. Moreover, together with Medical Social Work, the Spiritual Care Service, and Medical Psychology and Psychiatry, we form the powerful Psychosocial Care Team within MUMC+
