The role

What you'll do

Together with a large group of other students, you will get to work in a friendly team at the largest steel company in the Netherlands. The client is working on a major project in which they must inspect all assets and update them if necessary. You will assist with the Process Pipeline Integrity Regime (PPIR). For this, you will inventory the pipelines, looking at drawings and pipe characteristics. You will go into the field and check all P&IDs. The site is very large, meaning you will sometimes be on the road for up to 20 minutes by car for the next field check. Therefore, it is useful to possess a driver's license. You will visit places and factories that you would otherwise never see and will receive responsibility over your own work unit. After you have checked the P&IDs in the field, you will update the asset lists. This is done primarily in Excel. You will be constantly learning new skills: looking critically in the field, becoming an Excel pro, and participating in a large organization. During the project, you will be engaged in process engineering, where you will also deal with the chemical aspects of the process. You will be solving puzzles with the drawings you have checked. To support you throughout the entire process, structural meetings are scheduled. Within the project, you have a lot of responsibility. You will hold conversations with P&ID managers, maintenance managers, operators, and process technologists; one-on-one with people full of knowledge who want to teach you a lot. It is therefore important that you are communicatively skilled; you will speak with many different types of people (from scientists to managers).

In short

  • 20 - 40 hours per week
  • €17,- per hour
  • Conducting field checks in the client's plant and processing the results
  • Verifying P&IDs
  • On-site in Velsen-Noord
