The role

As an HVAC Integration Engineer, you will work on a wide range of tasks in the field of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, cooling, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) aboard complex (naval) vessels. You are involved in the entire process, from the initial proposal to the final delivery of the ship. During the execution of projects, you work in a team with various engineers from different disciplines to achieve the required engineering results. You contribute both technical and practical knowledge to the design, ensuring HVAC-R systems are integrated into the overall vessel design in accordance with the contract. A core part of your responsibility is ensuring the smooth integration of these systems across all departments, facilitating effective collaboration and a smooth project flow.

As an HVAC Integration Engineer, you make an active contribution to the engineering process by reviewing and optimizing essential deliverables such as preliminary calculations, schematic drawings, specification documents, reviewing supplier documentation, functional descriptions, and test and validation plans. To achieve this, you are in direct daily contact with the customer and subcontractor. In this way, you contribute directly to the success of our projects and the innovative strength of Damen Naval.

Tasks and responsibilities

In this role as Integration Engineer HVAC, you have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Preparing technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors based on customer and design requirements.
  • Performing technical evaluations of subcontractor quotes in close cooperation with the purchasing department + reviewing technical information/documentation from suppliers; (e.g., mechanical drawings, schematics, calculations, electrical diagrams, etc.).
  • Monitoring compliance with all applicable requirements imposed by the customer and regulatory authorities.
  • Responsible for the integration of supplied components/systems into the vessel design in close cooperation with internal departments, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and the owner.
  • Preparing technical/functional specification documents (e.g., SDS) + verifying technical performance of products and systems (e.g., inspection of equipment at the supplier, FATs).
  • Ensuring a good working relationship with technical representatives of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Participating in design checks, reviews, and risk analyses to ensure the required quality.

Skills & experience

  • Professional education at HBO or WO level, preferably in the field of HVAC engineering or mechanical engineering, with demonstrable work experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC-R systems in a maritime or offshore environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering and automation in a maritime or offshore environment.
  • Quality, planning, and budget conscious.
  • Able to work with and manage multiple external suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Experience with regulatory authorities is a plus.
  • Excellent command of the Dutch and English languages, both written and verbal.

As an HVAC Integration Engineer, you make an active contribution to the engineering process by reviewing and optimizing essential deliverables such as preliminary calculations, schematic drawings, specification documents, reviewing supplier documentation, functional descriptions, and test and validation plans. To achieve this, you are in direct daily communication with the customer and subcontractor. In this way, you directly contribute to the success of our projects and the innovative strength of Damen Naval.

Key accountabilities

  • Preparing technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors based on customer requirements and design specifications.
  • Performing technical evaluations of subcontractor quotations in close cooperation with the Procurement Department, as well as reviewing technical information and documentation from suppliers (e.g. mechanical drawings, schematics, calculations, electrical diagrams, etc.).
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements imposed by the customer and regulatory authorities.
  • Responsible for the integration of supplied components and systems into the vessel design in close cooperation with internal departments, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and the customer.
  • Preparing technical and functional specification documents (e.g. SDS) and verifying the technical performance of products and systems (e.g. supplier equipment inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)).
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with the technical representatives of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Participating in design reviews, technical assessments, and risk analyses to ensure the required quality standards are achieved.

Skills & experience

  • Professional education on Bachelor or Master level preferable in the field of HVAC engineering or mechanical engineering with proven work skills based upon experience.
  • A minimum of five years' experience
  • Knowledge of HVAC-R systems in a marine or offshore environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical and automation in a marine or offshore environment.
  • Quality, planning and budget awareness.
  • Able to work with and manage multiple third-party vendors and subcontractors.
  • Experience with statutory bodies is a pre.
  • Proficiency in Dutch & English language written as well as verbal.
