The role

Are you an enthusiastic tax professional who gets energy from the tax guidance of (cross-border) M&A processes, restructurings, and working with private equity and real estate clients? In this role, you combine freedom, responsibility, and international collaboration with challenging tax M&A work. At DLA Piper, you get this opportunity and the freedom to leave your own mark on the work. There is a lot of flexibility both in terms of substantive focus and the execution of the work, and within the team, coordination and interaction take place in an informal manner. If this appeals to you, we would love to get in touch.

In this role, you are involved in the M&A process from A to Z: from due diligence and transaction documentation to tax structuring. Additionally, the team also serves as a permanent advisor to a number of investment and real estate funds (outside of the M&A processes). You have direct contact with clients, discuss tax issues, and think creatively about solutions. The short lines of communication give you the space to take your own responsibility, share your vision, and make a substantive difference. Does your profile not fully match all the requirements, but does this role appeal to you? We would love to talk to you to explore whether there is a good match.

The tax team currently consists of approximately 15 professionals, some of whom specifically deal with guiding M&A transactions and structuring investments. The focus lies on 'direct taxes'. Within the tax team, VAT, transfer tax, and transfer pricing experts work, providing advice from these perspectives.

The tax team works closely with other practice groups within DLA Piper, such as Corporate and Real Estate. Additionally, you regularly work together on cross-border projects with DLA offices abroad, such as in the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Germany, and France. There is active information exchange with these countries, ensuring you stay informed about relevant international developments in the market.

What you'll do

  • Full tax guidance of transactions and restructurings, including due diligence, transaction documentation, and structuring advice.
  • Direct client contact: you conduct conversations and negotiations with clients and counterparties.
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as Corporate and Real Estate, and foreign DLA Piper teams.
  • Guiding and managing junior team members.
  • Brainstorming with colleagues about complex tax issues and participating in technical consultations (VTO).

About you

  • You have a proactive and entrepreneurial attitude, with an eye for both tax-technical content and commercial opportunities.
  • You are responsible, enthusiastic, and dare to make decisions.
  • You enjoy working together and like guiding juniors.
  • You have an international mindset and feel at home in an environment with cross-border collaboration.
  • You have 3 to 7 years of work experience at a tax advisory firm, the tax department of a law firm, or a similar organization.
  • You have (nearly) completed your NOB training.
  • You possess excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
