The role
Your progress begins at Berenschot
24-38.75 hours per week | Utrecht | Hybrid | Transformation of Public Administration | €600 | WO
Berenschot is looking for a master's student who wants to do an internship within the Public Administration advisory group. Do you have an affinity for administrative issues and an interest in the advisory profession? Do you enjoy participating in advisory projects and do you have strong organizational skills? Then this internship is for you! Working for Berenschot means working on societal issues. We help various organizations in the public domain with all kinds of challenges. We also regularly organize gatherings, knowledge sessions, and meetings with a societal touch. You will learn a lot about the dynamic playing field in which we work, as you will work directly on challenging assignments and make an active contribution to the aforementioned activities. You will join an ambitious and driven team with extensive experience in the public domain. This team focuses primarily on strategy, collaboration, and organizational development in public administration. Do you see yourself in the advisory profession after your internship? Then there are opportunities to apply for a traineeship.
This is what you will do
Governments face diverse challenges, from the energy transition to improving the housing market. Berenschot helps ministries, provinces, municipalities, and water boards to tackle these challenges. As an intern, you will contribute by:
Participating in the Gideonsbende, where you help organize training courses and inspiration sessions.
Actively working on assignments, so that you get to know the playing field and the players within the public domain.
Going to clients together with fellow consultants and learning from their issues.
Conducting research and analyzing issues to support the advisory work.
Organizing learning modules and events, during which you maintain contact with speakers and locations.
During your internship, you will receive intensive guidance from an advisor, so that you develop your professional skills and learn how concepts and theories are applied in practice. Carrying out a graduation thesis is also possible. In that case, we would like to discuss with you how we can best align the graduation research with our advisory work and vice versa.

Where you will end up
Berenschot is an independent Dutch organizational consultancy firm in Utrecht, where more than 500 driven colleagues work on sustainable solutions for the issues of our clients. Our organization has a flat structure without partners, which gives you influence over the projects you execute. We always strive for surprising and innovative solutions, which makes us unique. With an open and informal culture, collaboration between different disciplines, and plenty of freedom from day one, you get the chance to discover where your strength lies and what you want to develop in.
These are your direct colleagues
You will work within the Public Administration advisory group, specifically in the Strategy, Collaboration, and Organizational Development team. We keep a close eye on developments in society, politics, and the economy and respond immediately to major tasks. We work in varying teams, so that the right expertise is always available. In addition to hard work, there is plenty of laughter.
Within Berenschot, we have a Gideonsbende: free thinkers and young people who organize events that wouldn't normally happen. Think of training courses for administrators and senior officials titled 'Tough themes and devilish dilemmas in public administration'. Additionally, we organize our own shadow elections (including a results event) parallel to those of the House of Representatives, provinces/water boards, or municipal councils. Furthermore, we organize all kinds of other gatherings, such as an advisory marathon to solve issues for smaller societal organizations.

You are pursuing a master's in (technical) public administration, public sector management, political science, business administration, economics, sociology, or a similar field. You have strong conceptual and analytical abilities, are curious, and are self-assured.
You are creative, good at organizing, and enjoy working in a team.
You are enrolled at an educational institution during your internship.
What we offer you
At Berenschot, we offer a unique working environment without shareholders or partners, which gives us the freedom to take initiative and commit ourselves to societal themes. We have an informal culture, short lines of communication, and plenty of opportunities for personal and professional growth. Additionally, we offer:
An internship allowance of € 600,- gross per month based on full-time.
A laptop.
Personal guidance focused on your professional and subject-specific development.
An inspiring workplace in Utrecht and hybrid working possibilities.
Many interns have started a traineeship at Berenschot after their internship – if performing well, this internship offers excellent opportunities for your career.
