The role

Learn more. Do more. More career. That is doing an internship at Dura Vermeer.

How do you make a concrete structure more sustainable without compromising on safety and quality? During this internship at Dura Vermeer Divisie Infra, you will research which materials can contribute to this. You will combine structural calculations with sustainability and discover how we make material choices for infra projects. Are you following a technical HBO or WO degree and looking for an internship or graduation internship? Then we would like to meet you.

What you'll do

More and more new material solutions are becoming available for concrete structures. But a material with a lower environmental impact is not automatically the best choice for every application. Strength, costs, and processing on the construction site also count. How do you compare those solutions in a fair way? That is what you are going to investigate.

Together with your supervisor, you will choose a concrete structure that serves as the basis for your research. You will investigate how different material solutions can meet the same technical requirements. Subsequently, you will compare the solutions on technical performance, environmental impact, costs, and practical applicability.

Depending on your studies, interests, and learning goals, you will work on:

  • Choosing a suitable concrete structure and determining the requirements it must meet.

  • Collecting information about existing and innovative material solutions.

  • Developing material variants and performing structural calculations.

  • Comparing the variants: what are the advantages, limitations, and points of attention?

  • Translating your results into advice for our colleagues.

You will record your approach, calculations, and conclusions in a report and present your findings to the team. With this, you help our colleagues to make better-substantiated material choices.

You are not alone during your research. You will work together with structural engineers, designers, and sustainability advisors and receive guidance from experienced colleagues. This is how you learn how structural design and sustainability come together in practice. Together, we will coordinate the content and depth of the assignment to your studies and the requirements of your internship or graduation internship.

With us, you also bring in your own knowledge and ideas. You will get space to ask questions, take initiative, and discover where your interests lie. This way, you not only get more out of your studies, but also more out of your career.
