The role

Your job as a Support Worker at Bartiméus in Doorn

Your residents will amaze you. About what they can do, what they do, and their outlook on life.

If your residents teach you one thing, it is that there is always more possible than you think. You carry that positive attitude into everything you do. That is why you enjoy going the extra mile for these special people with visual and intellectual disabilities.

There are 53 homes located on the wooded grounds in Doorn. Each home houses 5 to 8 residents ranging in age from early 20s to 80s. In our diverse groups, residents have an intellectual disability in addition to a visual impairment. Together with you, we will look at which target group suits you best!

Do you enjoy a good chat or a lively discussion?

Then you will fit right in with our groups of residents with a mild or moderate intellectual disability. Here you have the chance to truly engage in conversation and support them in their daily choices and personal development.

Do you prefer working with people who require more intensive care and support?

Then working with people with a severe (multiple) disability might be for you. These residents often have a need for clear structure and predictability. You help them every day with the best care and attention.

Are you ready for a challenge and can you handle unpredictable situations well?

Then working with people with challenging behavior could be a good match. For this target group, it is about patience, understanding, and empathy to understand behavior and offer appropriate support.

Do you find it interesting to work with sensory impairments?

On various groups, residents live with a combination of visual, intellectual, and auditory impairments. Here, the emphasis lies on finding creative ways to communicate and provide support, while understanding the unique sensory challenges of the residents.

Do you have a heart for psychosocial support?

We also have groups with residents who have a psychosocial disability. They often need extra support in dealing with mental and emotional challenges. Additionally, you can play an important role in their well-being and stability.

Do you prefer focusing on the individual and like working 1-on-1?

Then our groups where you work 1-on-1 with one of the residents might be for you. Here you have the opportunity to offer highly personal care and support, fully tailored to the unique needs of the resident.

Because a large proportion of the residents are aging, on most units you will also deal to a greater or lesser extent with additional physical limitations. You therefore help with the care of the ADL (Activities of Daily Living). This varies per resident and ranges from verbal support with the ADL to full assistance.

What is certain regardless? We are looking to expand across various residential groups. In doing so, it does not matter whether you are a Support Worker at A- or B-level, or a Caregiver IG. You are very welcome! Your tasks depend on your knowledge and experience, but they always include:

  • Guiding, stimulating, and activating the residents.

  • Ensuring a pleasant and safe living environment in which the residents can develop optimally.

  • Reporting in our reporting system.

  • Supporting the Coordinating Support Worker in their duties, for example by creating monthly reports.

We are Bartiméus

We are Bartiméus. With over 1,900 employees and about 850 volunteers, we are there for people in the Netherlands who are visually impaired or blind. Also if they have a multiple disability or experience problems with seeing due to, for example, non-congenital brain injury. We are there for their loved ones and for the professionals and organizations around them. They can turn to our expertise center, our outpatient services, our schools and residential facilities, and the various forms of day activities we offer. We do everything in our power to make it possible for people with a visual impairment to lead the life that suits them and to develop to their full potential. Because it is not about what percentage you see. It is about what percentage you live. Bartiméus. 100% living.

Who are you?

The support style varies per resident and per residential group. At one moment your support is development-oriented, while at another moment you are more involved with care. An intensive and at the same time varied job where no two days are the same and the residents regularly bring a smile to your face. You provide peace and stability in the lives of the residents and challenge them when necessary. You always think in solutions and possibilities. In short, you are not just a support worker, but also a coach and a companion, and you ensure a true home. Furthermore, you have:

  • At any rate, an MBO diploma level 3 in the direction of Care & Welfare for the position of Support Worker A, and at least level 4 for Support Worker B.

  • Patience, humor, and great empathy.

  • The talent to collaborate well.

What do we offer you?

  • An engaging job in which you acquire a lot of new knowledge and make a difference for a special target group.

  • A permanent contract immediately for 16-36 hours per week; a lower number of hours is negotiable.

  • Salary appropriate to your experience, based on the CAO Gehandicaptenzorg. Residential Support Worker B FWG 40 min. €2,951,- and max €3,980,- and as Residential Support Worker A FWG 35 min. €2,649,- and max €3,708,- gross per month based on a 36-hour work week.

  • Holiday allowance of 8%, an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% and an attractive flexible benefits system, through which you benefit from tax advantages on the purchase of, among other things, a (lease) bike, sports subscriptions, outings, a museum annual pass, and gift vouchers.
