Role description

The Netherlands is densely populated and continuously in motion. Developments in the fields of housing construction, the railway and road networks, and urban densification have an impact on the living environment and demand research and smart choices regarding noise. For our services, we are looking for a road and rail traffic noise specialist who gets energy from working with data and advanced noise software and who also knows how to translate this into clear advice. You find it a challenge to work on high-profile, demanding, and often multidisciplinary projects.

As a specialist, you will work on acoustic studies for roads (highways, provincial roads, municipal roads), railways, sidings, and area developments. Your work consists of, in consultation with clients, determining the scope of a project, after which you subsequently collect the correct data and starting points and process this in advanced software (Geomilieu) with which you perform noise calculations. You test the outcomes of these noise calculations against legal standards and policies. If it follows from this that standards are exceeded, you conduct research into concrete noise measures such as quiet road surfaces, rail dampers, and noise barriers and embankments. You process the research results and your advice into clearly readable reports. You work for governments such as Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, provinces, and municipalities, but also for private parties such as contracting companies and developers.

Examples of some of our current high-profile projects:

  • Area development De Binckhorst in The Hague. De Binckhorst is a former industrial area in The Hague that is transforming into a modern urban district for living and working;
  • Zuidasdok is an extensive infrastructure program in and around the Zuidas in Amsterdam-Zuid. It includes the renewal and expansion of Amsterdam Zuid station, the widening and partial tunneling of the A10 Zuid, the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel junctions, and the redesign of the public space around the station;
  • Framework agreement with the Central Agency for Asylum Seekers (COA). Realization of new reception locations throughout the Netherlands;
  • Framework agreement with ProRail. Acoustic research due to, among other things, railway changes, noise production ceiling exceedances, and conversions of sidings under Article 12.5 of the Living Environment Quality Decree;
  • Junction A30A1. Acoustic research due to the modification of this junction;
  • N203 Krommenie - Uitgeest. A variants study into mobility and environmental solutions for the N203 near Krommenie.

Qualifications and experience

You are analytical, curious, and solution-oriented. You enjoy dissecting complex noise issues and explaining them clearly to colleagues, clients, and competent authorities. You like to work together, but can also independently lead a research or advisory process.

Furthermore, you bring:

  • a completed HBO (higher professional education) and/or academic degree, for example in environmental science, technical physics, civil engineering, traffic engineering, urban planning, or a comparable technical study;
  • experience with acoustic research into road and/or rail traffic noise;
  • affinity with calculation models, traffic data, GIS, and translating results into understandable advice;
  • knowledge of the Environment Act, noise regulations, or the ambition to further develop yourself in these areas;
  • good oral and written communication skills in Dutch; English is a plus.

Do you have experience with Geomilieu, noise measurements, project management, or advising in larger integrated projects? Then that is certainly a plus.

We invite both starters and candidates with experience to apply.
